So I go to get fingerprinted and some other shit..and after about 9 hours (im not exaggerating..I got there around 5:30am and left around 6:30pm) of being there just waiting for stupid shit..its time to pick my job. So I walk in there and the man seems cool and asks 'what can the best army in the world do for ya?'. So I tell him Im only interested in short-term shit..2 or 3 years. He says he can get me a job in the infantry for 2 years. I tell him its probably too hard. See, Im overweight (about 5'10''..200lbs) and to be in the infantry you gotta be hardcore to the fuckin bone. Their boot camp isnt a fuckin joke. I tell him it sounds nice, but if I did that Id have to delay my entry so I could spend alot of time getting into top shape. He assures me Ill be ok, and that its the Armys job to get me in shape. So, being that I love a challenge - especially when it looks impossible. I say yes. I accept a 2 year enlistment as a member of the US Army infantry. If you dont know about the infantry, heres the the general info. Theyre the toughest motherfuckers in the Army. Theyre the ones on the front lines of the battlefield. Theyre basically trained killing machines with a body like a fuckin rock. If some shit goes down, Army sends them in first. Theyre like marines. They're out there everyday simulating warfare. Im scared as fuck I wont be able to make it through their boot camp. But Im also excited at the challenge. It would put me in such great shape that my bball game would skyrocket..I'd be able to run all over the place just to wear the opponent down. Id be fuckin ripped with no fat on me..when I get out Id get every girl I wanted. And I would truly be proud of myself for life if I accomplished this. Being Im only enlisted 2 years..I didnt get as much shit as others. But I did get a pretty penny more than Id get working at fast food. For college I got $26,500. As an enlistment bonus I got $3,000. And I will be making around $940 a month. It doesnt sound like much but dont forget thats $940 with rent, food, insurance all paid for. And that $940 is just temporary. After about 6 months I should upgrade to around $1,100 a month. Then by the time I get out I should be around $1,300 a month. I ship out August 31st. Until then Im gonna be working my ass off. Im gonna wake up around 5am every morning and jog/walk 3 miles to the park. Then play ball, run the track, etc at the park ALL FUCKING DAY until the sun comes down..then go home and sleep.If I do that 30 days straight Ill be in pretty good shape. B] ok well ive never bean in any armed forces but ive seen what they do to there people. my uncle has a "straight" leg from WWII. he got shot in the knee and since then his knee has been fused straight. I had a distant cusin that was a seal. killed in a "training op." right as the gulf war started, we dont belive it. I saw saving private ryan and relized if i am ever drafted i WILL go to canada. fuck all that shit. the only way i would fight a war is if they invaded us, then i would sniper some fucks, but fuck all that infantry shit! There is a part of me thats afraid theyll fuck my head up. But I just believe I gotta stay mentally strong. Yeah theres people who get permanently fucked up mentally, but theres also people that are never the same after a strong acid trip. Ive tripped before and I came out fine..and anyone thats ever tripped knows the key to not flipping out is to just keep saying to yourself 'im tripping. its not real. im tripping'. Im gonna take that same mentality, Ill just keep thinkin 'hes tryin to break me down, its all a game, nobody can fuck with my brain if I dont let them.' If I know going in that theyll fuck with my head, that gives me an advantage, theyd rather catch me off-guard. My recruiter told me when you first get there, you have about 3 days of just initiation. Thats where you get your uniforms, immunizations, id card, boots, etc. He said they treat you really well there and feed you well, nice room, with the purporse of having you let your guard down. Well now that I know that - my guard isnt coming down. Ill know that shits just the calm before the storm. And dont forget Im only going in for 2 years..that shit will be over before I know it. Alot of those mentally fucked army guys were in for 4 years or more. Also, communication technology has gotten so much better. Once Im past boot camp I can go to my barracks after work and log on to the net, watch tv, listen to music, etc so I wont lose contact with reality. And after boot camp youre allowed to leave base. Also you get 30 months paid vacation every year..if I really hate it I can save them and get out after about 1 year 10 months. Oh and if anyones wondering Ill be in Ft. Benning GA. dsel.ufd Posted July 28, 2001 Share Posted July 28, 2001 well I cant really talk shit i would be in the Army now but I falled the drug test,and I gave it awhile to get the shit out my system so I kinda think that some things happen for a reason.I know alot of dudes that have been threw the whole service thing and heard good and bad.I dont know if the infentry division (grunts)would have been my first choice.Although you really dont "pick"your job ,thats what the test they give you is for ,you have to qualify for certain jobs.I qualified for the tank operations which would have been dope.Right now Im pretty much stuck in a rut(shitty job,no money for school, fucked up credit,bitchy girl,etc..)and have been thinkin about takin a trip down to the recuiters office myself.Once your outta bootcamp its pretty much just like going to work everyday,and partying alot.If you take advantage of some of the programs its really not that bad.Todays Armed services are nothing like the ones our grandfathers and fathers were in.Its alot softer now.Anyways good luck,bro. Well not really. You only need a 30 to get into the army. Anything above a 50 qualifies you for just about anything. I got a 76 with no problem. Think about the Army man. Its not so bad. Anyway, MAPO... Almost everyone I know who's been in the army is really happy they did their time for their country. They are some of the most disaplined, stratigic, appreciative people I know. NOT brainwashed or meatheaded at all. Given, I'm sure they'll bust your balls and it will be hard ass work, you'll meet a lot of cool people, and it will make your character even stronger. I'm sure you don't need some stranger on the internet to tell you any of this, but since some other people were talkin their shit like retards, I wanted to say that I think joining the army is a great decision. One more thing, they say the army fucks with your head and changes you.. but so does going to college to be a psychologist, and so does being locked down, basicly anything you do for 2 years plus is going to have an effect on your outlook on life. At least you are choosing one that advocates disiplin and commoradere. But I think any job youll find someone like that, especially in the south. Yeah Ive calmed down some about infantry. I even imed some infantry people on AOL. They said anyone can pretty much be infantry, as long as you are determined. Its hard but not impossible. Im trying to think of all the cool shit Ill do when I get out of boot camp. Hardcore, realistic war games every day. We'll be using the greatest fighting technology in the world. We'll be out there in the middle of the night with night vision goggles shooting and shit, driving tanks, camping, eating that non-perishable food in a sealed bag that lasts for like 15 years or something, the whole 9. My recruiter said after infantry boot camp they ask if you want to join Airborne. Its a very popular job so not many people get it. But I might ask for it. I would love to jump from planes on a daily basis. Then when I get out I can be in college and be like 'yo baby..I used to jump out of planes with a parachute..and check out my sculpted body from 2 years of physical work that makes most men cry'..shiiit Ill have the females on lock. Haha. Tow, thanks for the words. I dont think Ive mentioned it on here before, but my mom was in the Army. She was an operating room specialist and now shes like director of nursing where she works. Being in the Army helps on a job application, or on a college application. And yeah they change you mentally, but its mostly for the better.
