So i was in the shower about 10 minutes ago checking out the ceiling above my shower just standing there and i glanced and i thought i saw a glossy image of the pope in my ceiling glaring off the white paint. Boy was i wrong but it got me to thinking.

Since some of you have lived through the 80's and nineties, i was wondering who you thought were the most powerful people of the last 25 years.

In your point of view, what do you think have been the best inventions and/or technological advances of the past 25 years?

I thoought this would make a semi decent thread title as opposed to talking about drinking, smoking with your dog, or boinking your neighbors gerbil.

I'd say Gates and Jobbs made a HUGE impact on the world as a whole.
There's something like a billion computers out there now and they
certainly have had, like it or not, a big influence on things.

I personally think the most important invention in terms of practical necessity
is the electric car. Sure it's fun to know about DNA, and stem cells are cool too,
but unless we reverse our path towards environmental oblivion and the end of oil,
nothing else will really matter that much. Now if people would just start using them.

oh wait..... Americans refuse to sacrifice their 'quality of life' for pansy-liberal-conservationists.

I think Bio-diesel is a good step...which uses used cooking oil to produce a fuel for diesel cars and buses. You dont need to do any type of engine conversion, and you can cultivate soy bean fields to use to make fuel. There is only a few places that practice this.

BUt if you think about inventions, the plastic slivers in your wallet also made huge impact..
