thetrooper
I think Propagandhi put it best. SKA SUCKS Ska sucks. Ska revival isn't cool, you stupid fuck. The bands are only in it for the bucks. And if you don't believe me you're a schmuck. But the trend will die out with any luck. Rudy, a message to you Rudy... Fuck you Rudy! [mania]
ska isnt aboutjust some band with a horn section. ska appeals to me because its more musically complex than just a traditional band. punk ska bands are more than the average powerchord playing band. they play music that is complex and is more fun/interesting to listen to. dont get me wrong though, i love punk. but punk ska is like the best of both worlds. good punk ska bands= Big D and the Kids Table Streetlight Manifesto Catch 22 The Arrogant Sons of Bitches Operation Ivy Against All Authority oh and about the ethnic diversity of ska bands: theyre more mixed than any other genrte of music. just think about it: hip hop/reggae = predominantly black metal/punk/rock= predominantly white if i remember correctly fisbone was an entirely black band? im not trying to stereotype or anything. its just how it is. of course there are exceptions to ethnic diversity in every genre of music but ska is just one big exception. im white. i play trombone. i play bass. im in a ska band. which includes two other black kids. one other white kid. and another kid who is 1/2 cherokee or something... but he looks white. depite all this though... i dont have dreads. and the trumpet player isnt the other white kid. peace. mania
MrChupacabra
who the fuck cares about racial diversity in bands? Ska was good when i was 12 and also thought 311 was a good band.
MOOGLE?
yea fishbone is mostly an all black band minus one or two mullatos .fishbone is also known as the gwen stefani passaround band..since she pretty much fucked them all hepcat has to be my all time though..authentic to the core bothe singers learned to speack in a jamaican dialect so fluently you could have never told that they werent..and one of the singers was alex desert..the blind guy on the show becker..some cool ass fuckin cats who helped my old band out with shows. the only thing i'm not too fond of though is the drum patterns for traditional are limited..and people tend to play in the same happy ass key and horn harmonies. its all dancehall to me though 311 pwn5 joo chupacups 311 f0r 3v3r!!!!! Frate_Raper
I would always feel really bad for the ska kids that would start to skank really hard at hard core shows, they always got the sit kicked out of them.I wonder if that still happens? Future Droid
if you are one of those who said "ska is terrible" etc etc, you obviously dont know your roots...what do you know about derrick morgan, laurel aitken, desmond decker and other ska pioneers? Reggae, rocksteady, and dub were all offshoots of ska. There are many dope 2nd wavs ska bands as well, bad manners, special, beat, madness, selecter. Back around 85 when ska was fusing with hardcore on the east coast bands like such bands as the bosstones (check out their first album...HOT!), and fishbone, 3rd wave was born, and moon records came out with a plethora of dope ass bands. Ska is a music rich in culture with its mod/skinhead/punk/suedehead/rudeboy following. Ska influnced almost all music as we know it from the police to probably your favorite hardcore band. well anyways thats my 2 pennies. Future Droid
also i might add, some of duck down records have an obvious ska influence with mention of "rude boys" in their songs with a reggae beat.
