I think Propagandhi put it best.

Ska sucks. Ska revival isn't cool, you stupid fuck. The bands are only in it for the bucks. And if you don't believe me you're a schmuck. But the trend will die out with any luck. Rudy, a message to you Rudy... Fuck you Rudy!

i listen to almost all types of music and ill admit i use to listen to ska. but them horns got way to annoying for me. however, i dont mind listening to old catch 22 or streetlight manifesto now and then.

i like of the originals of ska

toots, wailers, desmond decker. as far as the newer stuff i think it stopped with the toasters, pilfers, agent 99, alot of early moon ska stuff. i got sick of ska after awhile.

these are quite possibly the best examples of what ska isnt then anything.
the influence ska had on punk is fine, but 90% of the cross over was a fashion statement at best and had little to do with the roots of ska or its traditions.

ethreads mentions some goodies though, well the forst three.

ethiopians, prince buster, slim smith... the list can go on and on.

    isaac green and the skalars
    lets go bowling
    ocean 11
    jump with joey
    peter tosh
    the equators
some of thos are hybrid bands

its a bit hard sifting through the third wave generation that actually plays traditional ska , and also rocksteady is a very looked over genre.

as for becoming a ska band for the money..at the time of the big ska boom you have to look at what bands became popular, most of the were either ska punk or just pop punk with ska influences

    reel big fish
    voodoo glowskulls
    save ferris
    no doubt
    big bad voodoo daddy
    five iron frenzy

very few established bands made that sort of wave
    the skeletones
    the toasters
    mustard plug
    gangster fun

its early and i'm too hungover to think

but if anybody..crap i forgot what i was gonna say

    and no two-tone isnt ska

also i hated people calling themselves rudeboys...cant be a rudeboy unluss yer a thug..and be ready to ridetadie
