WASHINGTON, Feb. 7 — The Justice Department raised its terrorist threat assessment level to “orange” — or high risk — on Friday, reflecting concerns among Bush administration officials that terrorists were planning an attack against U.S. interests at home or overseas as early as next week. Administration officials said the decision was based primarily on intelligence, but a senior law enforcement official told NBC News that one factor was an FBI hunt for a Pakistani man believed to have illegally entered the United States.

 

 

 

Feb. 7 — Top officials advised President Bush that the possibility of an al-Qaida attack was as high as it had been since Sept. 11, 2001. NBC's Pete Williams reports....
