Just curious to see if any of you guys trained in any martial arts. got into brazilian jiu jitsu recently and it's more fun than a barrel of monkies. Being a white belt i do get tapped often, but that's part of the fun. I'm hoping to train at the machado school over the summer.

I had karate classes when I was 7.

Gymnastics while I was 8 threw 10.

Soccer from 10 yrs- 12 yrs.

All which coincadently laid the foundation from 18 to current: DIM MAK.

There are no classes, at least that I know of. I have a good amount of books

and instructional tapes on the form and studied along with my closest friends.

I've only had to use the knowledge once.

I'm going for my green belt in Goju-Ryu this month.

I set up a badass makiwara in my house.

It's really just a hard canvas sack and mine's filled with white beans

and copper BB's. Hitting a heavy bag after the makiwara is like punching a pillow.

* mine has more blood spots on it. Not that there's any comparison to Bruce Lee.

I'd say hapkido or JKD is the most practicle form of fighting.

There's a guy in my city who learned JKD from the man himself*

and it's super hard to get lessons with him. You have to be invited in

by someone who's already down with the class. My boy was invited but didn't get asked back.

* if you have to ask who the man himself is, then you really dont know shit.

i think the gracies might be soem of the onyl peopel to leave there doors open to any competitor who thinks there art form is better. in all reality 80% of fights end up on the ground and once you take a striker out of his element such as JKD or boxing or anythign liek that you take away soemoens comfort level and force them to fight yoru fight and if your a ground fighter yoru lookign to take a person to the ground what teh fuck is a striker gonan do when you have him on the ground? it takes away almost all power of punches and most liekly he dosent know whats goign on so as hes tryan dominate the postion your letteing him put himself in the ba dpositiona dn next thing you know his arm is broekn or hes choekd out.

its called ground and pound. and ive seen the videos of the gracie spummling hopkido, boxers and kung fu "black belts" alike i say anyoen who trains a year in grappling is pretty much able to work anyoen who trained a yera in anythign else except mayeb gun shootign and gang fighting but i dont think ther emany classes for those.

no style is better, but some styles suit other people better.

If you take an olympic cailber boxer, or semi-pro even,

they can knock out someone who trains exclusively in grappling

with the first flurry just because the grappler cant take a punch.

There's no 'best' style when it comes to real world situations.

A jail house boxer will adapt if someone tries to go for a leg take-down.

what are you doing with your ntus that you need them to be so fuckign huge?

and as for the first flurry of punches its been shown and proven you can just take the guy down and then groudn and pound if olympic caliber punchers were so good why arent they winnign in any major MMA events?

pride, UFC, vale tudo? never has tehre been a boxer win the event. i mean if a grapplers gonna try and box the guy then its a whoel dioffrent story but ina fight anythign pretty miuch goes. im prety sure the grappler aint gonna stand there and box the guy toe to toe.

i've been taken vovinam for more than 5 years now. its a combination of kicks, punches, joints lock, wrestling, leg attacks. i will eventually enroll myself in an aikido and jiu jitsu class though, i enjoy the joints breaking shit...Sprungklein.gifbi_02.jpgi had a chance to train with this dude (the red belt) before he's one crazy fucker
