Mainter
StopIE - Rid the web of Internet Explorer Welcome to StopIE.com. We are dedicated to the removal of Internet Explorer as the most common browser on the web. There are many reasons for this. Internet Explorer's Main Problems There are countless bugs in Internet Explorer, but here are the main reasons to choose a free alternative. * Prone to viruses and worms * Renders pages incorrectly. Web designers then need to spend extra time working so that pages work in Internet Explorer. This puts costs up, and slows the web down. * Doesn't let people resize certain text sizes. This means those with poor sight cannot read small text on many sites. * Far slower program than other web browsers * Far larger program than other web browsers * Isn't as user-centric as other web browsers. It lacks many handy features such as tabbed browsing and integrated search * Doesn't support PNG images properly Alternatives to Internet Explorer Internet Explorer is the worst major browser. There are a number of free alternatives available. These alternatives are standards compliant, i.e. they conform to international standards. Internet Explorer is not standards compliant, and thus renders pages wrongly. On the alternatives to Internet Explorer page, we outline many superior competitors, all of which are free or have free versions. These are Mozilla Firefox, K-Meleon, Mozilla, Opera, Camino and Safari. Microsoft responding? Microsoft have announced 'IE7' will be available in the summer (Beta). Security fixes are expected, given MS' recent bad press in this area, but few expect Microsoft to fix web standards issues in Internet Explorer, or IE's accesibility problems. Some only expect a similar update to Service Pack 2 (which fixed a number of very serious vulnerabilities). Maybe some handy features will be adopted from alternative browsers, but no-one is holding their breath. Play your part - StopIE Change browser, encourage your friends and family to do the same. geezpot
Of course people using IE are more prone to detect problems-whats the comparison between users billions to maybe millions? If any other browser had billions of people using it, eventually it will be prone to problems too. :hatred: <this emoticon best describes Mr.Bojangles butt sometimes. fermentor666
^^ She'd son you, for sure. MSIE is the most popular browser because it comes installed on every single Windows machine, and convenience is what drives capitolism. It's also a piece of shit and leaves your computer susceptible to all sorts of bad things. There was a viral webpage a few years back that would actually run a java script which wrote a script onto your harddrive, leaving you open to spyware and adware. It also inserted the website's url into your AIM signature in order to perpetuate itself. I did some research at the time and found that the person who owned the domain for "Gator" (an older spyware company that changed names a bunch of times to try and erase the past and continue being assholes) also owned the domain for that webpage. And it only affected people who used MSIE.

geezpot
I'm just saying that if they gauged a user base backing IE and a user base using Mozilla Firefox that it would be no comparison. Of course IE is prone to more problems but if Firefox had even remotely close to the same users it would have problems too. Hackers will still develop problems for any browser, they're just more inclined to tap into a browser that everyone uses. When you have billions of people using IE and some hack taps in a virus its more likely that those billions of people will complain and a solution for the problem will be promptly solved, if Firefox got a virus and only has a million users the solution could take days. IE is more commonly used so it receives more attention for solutions. I have always had an open mind with browsers and tried a few and to be honest Firefox gave me problems, it also made me feel like a 4 year old-damn thing is tooooo user friendly. The browser E-debate is kinda like political voting, your still screwed in the end. :yuck: <this emoticon best describes the above statement
