shesmyheroin Posted October 31, 2003 Share Posted October 31, 2003 i just think it's funny that a large majority of people stereotype graffiti writers as hip hop kids. i obviously agree that hip hop is tied in with the history of graffiti, but i also find it funny that a large amount of writers out there today are tattoo artists. and the stereotype of tattoo artists is mostly that they are all bikers and yada yada. now... as a result we have hip hop kids, and biker dudes. 2 totally different things. i just find it funny how both sides of the graffiti table talk to one another [ ie art fags, bla bla bla ] but yet they both have something in common, and for a lot of them... something that is a big part of thier life. i really wish everyone would grow up and respect people for their art, and not dislike it just because of their tastes and likings. Guest sneak Posted October 31, 2003 Share Posted October 31, 2003 stereotypes can be a blessing or a curse. where im from, there is a general "picture" of what a writer / vandal looks like held by the public. usually its that they will be around 12 - 18, male, wearing tracksuit trousers and looking like a general pikey. nowadasys i consciously choose not to look like that when im out on a mission. RubbeRBand Posted November 2, 2003 Share Posted November 2, 2003 graffitti as we know it came around before hip hop. but nowadays we have all these people in the world of graffitti, yeah, that can be positive, but honestly, graffitti is not just a form of art, it's putting yourself up there and when you do that you impede on other people's personal space in ways that most people can't grasp. but it's true, you see someone's stuff that you like and part of you says, hmm that's kinda nice, but then you also feel this need to respond, and for a lot of these shitheads that comes across as a fuck you!
