Harpo Marx
There's got to be some people with knowledge of how to start/run a distro. I'm aware of how to get the records and everything, but does anyone have suggestions as how to seel them? I know go to shows, but is there something other than that that works well? Is it a good idea to start it with someone else, or is it better to do alone?

seeking
you have to get a list of music stores around the world, or atleast america and fax them your stock list. you're also gonna need to call all these shops and talk to the buyers, see what kind of shit the people are into in that area, etc. its kind of a pain in the ass and it almost never works out. good luck though. seeking/rich in 6months

toyeattoywar
some people start out in smaller numbers working consignment deals so it doesnt cost as much in the begining, you can give a store * copies of * albums and they keep a certain percentage and it keeps your numbers lower in printing costs as opposed to selling * cases. the catch is that you dont get paid until they sell the merchandise. other stores will buy * amount of cases and keep it in their backstock depending on who your target audience is will probably make that decision for you. small buisnesses and individuals vs. corporation like stores. try to find stores that carry independent work as well like ameoba in the bay area. theres alot to be learned from people that have already been succesful in pushing their own music, look at living legends website and check out their store. i think what ultimately is the make it or break it is if you keep pressing on as opposed to give up after the first couple of rough spots. most small buisnesses take about three years before they are really making any profit and youll probably have to keep a job in the mean time. seeking...hit us with some knowledge on how you pulled that off in 6 months. **editnote:it helps alot if your working with numerous people you trust and you are all somewhat working towards the same goal but its not neccesarily needed.
