I figured as much... But I've seen ALOT of robots in manufacturing so I wasn't just going to rule it out completely. Probably the most unrealistic parts are the design and the fact that it responds to the car in real time.

But it is possible.

for those of you that give up easy....

I've discovered a few dirty little secrets about the brturbo.com domain. I don' t know if no one talks about this to keep 75% of all newbies from sucking up available bandwidth, or maybe people just don't know. I thought I'd share this info here.

I've noticed that many URLs link to directories within some subdomain of brturbo.com. If you do an nslookup of whatever hostname of the brturbo.com URL of interest is you will find that it always returns the same four IP addresses, only in different order each time.

I think it's some kind of attempt at load balancing or something, because every time I try to visit the same URL on in the brturbo.com domain, I get pointed to a different IP address. That's where 75% of the people will have problems. It appears that the URL isn't replicated on all four servers, so sometimes you will get your download, sometimes you will get no response, sometimes you will get 404 File Not Found, and sometimes you will get 503 Service Not Available. Right away some people start posting, "Nope, link dead" and move on. In the worst case, you can try three times, and fail three times, without knowing that you could have got it on the fourth try.

Whenever you try to connect, always wait awhile to see if you're going to get what you want, and don't get impatient and cancel your download (brturbo.com is pretty swamped, and the response isn't great). If after waiting a long time and you get nothing (say a couple of minutes), cancel the download and try it again. You'll likely get a different server, and the process starts all over again.

Now there's this issue with "Download Accelerators" (I don't use one myself). I'm not even really sure what that means. It seems that the rate at which you download depends on the load of the server and the bandwidth of your connection. My only assumption is that this is a misnomer for "program that supports downloading partial content".

Both FTP and HTTP support partial content (any modern server, anyways). I use a UNIX utility that's been ported to Win32 called wget (a quick search on google should turn it up for you). Using the -c command-line option enables partial content for both FTP and HTTP. The usage would be something like:

wget -c your://url.here/

You can put all your URLs into a text file and wget will step through it for you. In which case your command-line will be something like:

wget -c --input-file=file_with_urls.txt

The best part is wget gives you some technical info that I don't think you can get with other programs. For instance, I try to download something. I eventually successfully get connected. Part way through the download, I get a read timeout(happens all the time). However, wget reported to me what IP address the hostname of the URL resolved to when it successfully connected. I call wget with the same command-line args a couple of times until I get the same IP address as my first successful connection, and bingo, it continues to download where it got disconnected.

Files stay up for a couple of days before disappearing. No one is pulling your leg. If someone says it's there, it's there or was there, and you just didn't try hard enough to get connected.
