RumPuncher
I was digging in an old sketchbook and found a drunken list: Places I'd like to visit based soley on the name Madrid Damascas Rotterdam Nice (clearly) Kufos Orleans Anjou Bimini Grand Turk San Rafael Xiam Kingston Obispo Santa Cruz Bristol Lyon Copenhagen Largo Alexandria New Castle how about you? < first useless thread >
deterrent
I would never travel anywhere based solely on it's name.
RumPuncher
why the hell not? I'd travel for any reason at all.
SteveAustin
I'm gonna go on ahead and throw Barcelona and Ibiza on there...partially because I've already got plans to go there. In addition, my friends and I will be driving a brand new Porsche 911, Porsche Cayenne and a BMW Z8 from Barcelona. I'll be in the beemer despite my love affair with 911s. Have I ever mentioned how much I dig my friends?
deterrent
Based on reputation there are several places I'd like to go. Iran - US citzens are now allowed back there HARD CORE North Korea - They're all brainwashed like us, but the opposite and very militiant (my prediction in the next five years they're going to do some very bad stuff.) K.C.- I love their graffiti Cambodia - Phnom Phen, Khmer Rouge, Land Minds, Skulls, Ruins, painkillers 10 for $1 Tibet - Speak with monks and enlightened ones regarding the Bardo Thodol

RumPuncher
I've been to Kuala Lumpur. I always say it like Kent Brockman on the simpsons. After KL we climbed Kota Kinabulu. That's fun to say out loud. I'd like to add Kilimonjaro to the list.

H. Lecter
There's already a "Dream Destinations" thread... But to humour you all, traveling somewhere just for the name, First would be the town which my family name comes from. Second would be Lake Titicaca. Third would have to be Christmas Island. But really I want to go to the Lake for it's beauty and culture, not the name; and to the Island for sun and desertion, but the nuclear bomb tests've ruined the sanctity of it, so visiting there is actually not so appealing... With the exception of chasing your family roots, Going somewhere because of a name is just ridiculous. I understand what you mean, the names of certain places have an allure to themselves, but it's not actually the name of the place that's alluring,it's the associations your mind makes when hearing it... over time, particular traits have been attributed to the image of that foreign land which make it appealing. I would rather travel "for no reason at all" than truely travel because of a name.. P.S. the craziest named place I've ever visited is Krung-thep-maha-nakorn-boworn-ratana-kosin-mahintar- ayudhya-amaha-dilok-pop-nopa-ratana-rajthani-burirom-udom-rajniwes-mahasat-arn-amorn-pimarn- avatar-satit- sakattiya-visanukam or Krungthepmahanakornamornratanakosinmahintarayutthayamahadilokphopnopparatrajathaniburiomudomrajaniwesmahasatharnamornphimarnavatarnsathitsakkattiyavisanukamprasit it's a city, and that's seriously it's official name. 60 sylables translating into “The City of Angels, which is Indra's crystal, is the city of Ayuddhya created by Wisanukam, the God of architecture and engineering (by the order of Indra's ) as the residence of an incarnation of Vishnu (i.e., King Rama).” link: DREAM DESTINATIONS THREAD
