Guest WebsterUno
anyone else that lives in Cali refraining from eating BEEF lately? I was at the store, big time drop in prices on beef products. Tina's Beef and Bean burritos- 6 for a dollar Tina's Bean and Cheese- 4 for a dollar Oscar Meyer Beef Franks- used to be $5 now theyre only $2...hahaha The chicken was all gone! The guy at the meat dept was saying nobody is buying beef! All the stores in that chain reported the same. 6 restaurants in my area reported having contaminated meat. Only one went public with it. The others wont say who they are! anybody wanna go out for some burgers? :yum:

It lies dormant inside of you for quite a long period of time.. and then starts eating away at your brain. People can get the same thing from eating other people. I forget what it's called, but it starts with a c.
S@T@N
Bovine Spongiform Encephalitis. Basically, the prions in the meat (kind of like a virus enzyme.. it changes proteins to resemble itself, giving that protein the prion characteristics) deteriorate your brain into a spongy substance. They've tried burning contaminated meat, but found that the prions were present in the ashes.
Guest
as the token canadian.... let me expain something the cow that was bought from canada was purchased over a decade ago, well before Brittan even knew about BSE (mad cow). Plus it was a dairy cow and they aren't supposed to be butchered and eaten. BSE gets into cows though their food. Farmers had been feeding cows a meal that included bits of sheep goats and other cows. The BSE virus lives in the brain and spine of these animals and it was being eaten by other cows. All this would have happened after it left canada. the solution: Eat kosher meat. For a cut of meat to be kocher, the cow cant have been fed meat in it's food. They wont eat 'downers' (a cow that cant stand up) and that's an early sign of BSE. Plus many cows are stunned with a blast of air in their mouth before being killed. This can spread the virus right before the butchering. Kosher rules forbid this. yeah.... where's the beef!?

Dr. Dazzle
Hasn't there only ever been a handful of cases of Mad Cow found in humans? I am prohibited from giving blood since I lived in Britain in the 80's. Maybe I have mad cow and don't even know it....

Seriously, cows are supposed to be fed grains and barley and crap, not other animals! What the hell.... Speaking of cows, on my way to work on Tuesday there was mad traffic on the expressway. I look at the truck next to me and its filled to the brim with cows. They had teeny windows for air (mind you, this was the day it was 5 degrees outside) and one of them had his little nose stuck out and there were big ol icicles hanging off of them...I felt bad. Who knows where they were going...butcher shop i presumed so my eyes started tearing (I make myself sick how sensitive i am with that stuff) Then, the next day, traffic is beautifully smooth. I'm going like, 70mph when i look to my left, and there was the cow truck again!! Luckily i didn't see them today otherwise i'd get superstitious and think it was some omen.... most pointless early morning rambling i ever wrote!! I think kids and old people were supposed to stay away from it as well. what the fuck, after a warning like that who would want to eat fish!! 26SidedCube
Being a veg does make you feel a thousand times more healthy... I wish I could still do it.. but if I didn't eat meat I wouldn't really be eating at all. I miss feeling really healthy all the time. 23578
^^i guess i was writing that as a poor meat eater. as for mercury in fish, how is it that farm raised fish also have high mercury? maybe i'm misleading you, we all know that the farm raised fish have low omega-3 because of what they get fed, but i'm sure they aren't fed mercury. but they have warnings on every trout stream in new york about the mercury levels in trout from fish farms, only wild trout (which are in like one in a hundred streams here*) are exempt. *made up stat, probably fewer than one

SteveAustin
are any of the vegetarians on here really physically active in sports or running? one of my friends was a vegetarian for years...but finally had to start eating meat due to his extremely low levels of protein. This isn't the first I've heard of this.
Guest
oh.... so it turns out that over 30% of feed mills in the US are NOT complying with the mandate to keep dead animals out of their feed. That's how mad cow is spread. hmmm.... I wonder how many ways there are to cook a chicken?

Guest WebsterUno
*believe* These rap lyrics belong in here.. its off one of my favorite artists albums. So fitting even 14 years later! -------------------------------------------------- Artist: Boogie Down Productions Album: Edutainment Song: Beef Beef, what a relief When will this poisonous product cease? This is another public service announcement You can believe it, or you can doubt it Let us begin now with the cow The way it gets to your plate and how The cow doesn't grow fast enough for man So through his greed he makes a faster plan He has drugs to make the cow grow quicker Through the stress the cow gets sicker Twenty-one different drugs are pumped Into the cow in one big lump So just before it dies, it cries In the slaughterhouse full of germs and flies Off with the head, they pack it, drain it, and cart it And there it is, in your local supermarket Red and bloody, a corpse, neatly packed And you wonder about heart attacks? Come on now man let's be for real You are what you eat is the way I feel But, the Food and Drug Administration Will tell you meat is the perfect combination See cows live under fear and stress Trying to think what's gonna happen next Fear and stress can become a part of you In your cells and blood, this is true So when the cow is killed, believe it You preserve those cells, you freeze it Thaw it out with the blood and season it Then you sit down and begin eatin it In your body, it's structure becomes your structure All the fear and stress of another Any drug is addictive by any name Even drugs in meat, they are the same The FDA has America strung out On drugs in beef no doubt So if you think that what I say is a bunch of crock Tell yourself you're gonna try and stop Eatin meat and you'll see you can't compete It's the number one drug on the street Not crack, cause that was made for just black But brown beef, for all American teeth Life brings life and death brings death Keep on eatin the dead and what's left Absolute disease and negative Read the book 'How to Eat to Live' By Elijah Muhammad, it's a brown paperback For anybody, either white or black See how many cows must be pumped up fatter How many rats gotta fall in the batter How many chickens that eat shit you eat How much high blood pressure you get from pig feet See you'll consume, the FDA could care less They'll sell you donkey meat and say it's FRESH! For nineteen-ninety, you SUCKERS!! ------------------------------------------------------------- I love seafood, and it sucks that I cant eat too much of that either. The mercury thing. I saw this segment on TV about how much fish we should eat. There are like 2 types of fish we shouldnt eat, but I have never eaten those fish. I usually only eat salmon, tilapia, shrimp, lobster, crab, mussels and oysters. So, Im pretty safe. But they said what you guys are saying, about prego women, lil kids and old people to stay away from fish. That sucks. :( I like calamari (squid) too!
