stratodab
Despite being for a good cause, I had no desire to wear a livestrong bracelet until I got one of these. Now I got a the livewrong one on my left wrist and the yellow one on my right. The right versus left, bad versus good metaphor works well since I'm left handed and I got some bad juju Get em here: http://www.livewrong.net/ http://www.drunkcyclist.com/

The Hipster
whats it all about?
Guest
here's the brief backstory.... Lance Armstrong beat cancer and won the Tour de France. He set up a charity and started selling these bracelets from the trunk of his car to raise some money. Nike decided that they should attach themselves to this noble cause, to play down the whole 'child-labor' thing, so they offered Lance a much bigger trunk to sell his bracelets out of. Lance toured all around the country and couldnt sell a single bracelet untill he met John Kerry. Kerry was a HUGE fan of yellow and he bought a zillion bracelets and gave them to all his fans. Now it's a cultural icon like those curly shoe laces were in the 80's, or hammer pants were in the early 90's. Now... people are ripping off the idea. I even saw a 'What Would Jesus Do?' version of the same design. Jesus must be selling a ton of them because people will do almost anything to get into heaven these days. Well.... anything except being nice to people.

Guest
It's not so big here either. I think it's big in the US because they sell them at Nike stores. Nothing to do with the fact that Lance Armstrong is a bike demon. I doubt that the 'Tour De Freedom' get's much coverage in the USA. forgot this:
SteveAustin
I've got one. Johnny from drunkcyclist is a good guy. He's supported some of my ventures, so I felt compelled to do the same.
Guest
so my history of the livestrong bracelet is accurate ?
SteveAustin
honestly, I don't really know the history behind it. all I know is that the yellow part came from the yellow leaders jersey of the tour that Lance is oh so familiar with and live strong is his personal mantra. I think he just decided to implement it into his cancer work to help raise money.

stratodab
those yellow bracelets are so stupid and the black ones arent funny i hate those things oh, they're pretty damn funny when you work in a bike shop and every employee but you wears the yellow ones, as do 2/3 of the customers. and when typically anti-bandwagon-jumping, hardcore-music-listenin', bike messenger-types friends of yours rock 'em over their full-sleeve tatoos then they get even funnier. so, you stick to your argyle-sock wristbands and quit bitchin, player. AW
I think it's sad that almost everything today is a rip of something else. The stupid Got Milk campaign spun off a million idiotic slogans. The 'Priceless' campaign is just as stupid. The one word ambiguous slogan stenciled on a wall is just as pathetic. There's nothing wrong with Lance Armstrong trying to raise money for Cancer. A quote "This fundraising effort will help the Foundation to enhance the quality of life of young cancer patients and their families." why waste your money on some rip off shit when the cash could be used to help some kid with cancer. Guest
the black ones aren't a rip-off, it's a 'send-up'. To spoof something in good humour isnt bad. I'm sure lance would approve of these ones because they are bikers, as opposed to the red/white/blue 'support our troops' ones that are selling on ebay. * this one is a bullshit rip off

Its not making fun of Lance's cancer charity. He likes to live on the wild side (c'mon he has a website devoted to porn and debauchery) and Live Wrong is as much a creed of his as Armstrongs Live Strong is to Lance. ERIZENO
I have seen them in pink for breast cancer.. etc..., its a flash in the pan trend and I see nothing wrong with having a little fun with it. I dont see it as taking anything away from the meaningful ones. They are not selling these as anything other than they are, not fronting saying they are supporting something they are not. i just ordered 5 .. Guest
damn.... it's the new 'ribbon campaign'. it used to be a red ribbon for aids and a yellow one for cancer. Now there's a jillion causes attached to every possible shade.
Guest HAL
All i know is those magnetic yellow fake ribbons you see on the back of every other car is the most annoying shit I've ever seen. I'd like to punch whoever invented those right in the face. I forgot abot the red white and blue ones, and the desert camo, and the all black POW ones i started seeing recently. All equally annoying and trivializing of a real problem. Oh Honey, let's spend $3.95 for a stupid, meaningless magnetic ribbon for our car so we can absolve ourselves of any guilt for supporting politicians sending young men and women to their deaths under false pretenses. I think a better way to support our troops would be to kick GWB right in the ass.
