LiveWrong Bracelets

    Despite being for a good cause, I had no desire to wear a livestrong bracelet until I got one of these. Now I got a the livewrong one on my left wrist and the yellow one on my right. The right versus left, bad versus good metaphor works well since I'm left handed and I got some bad juju

    here's the brief backstory....

    Lance Armstrong beat cancer and won the Tour de France.
    He set up a charity and started selling these bracelets from
    the trunk of his car to raise some money. Nike decided that
    they should attach themselves to this noble cause, to play
    down the whole 'child-labor' thing, so they offered Lance a
    much bigger trunk to sell his bracelets out of.

    Lance toured all around the country and couldnt sell a single
    bracelet untill he met John Kerry. Kerry was a HUGE fan of yellow
    and he bought a zillion bracelets and gave them to all his fans.
    Now it's a cultural icon like those curly shoe laces were in the 80's,
    or hammer pants were in the early 90's.

    Now... people are ripping off the idea.
    I even saw a 'What Would Jesus Do?' version of the same design.
    Jesus must be selling a ton of them because people will do
    almost anything to get into heaven these days. Well.... anything except being nice to people.

    It's not so big here either.

    I think it's big in the US because they sell them at Nike stores.
    Nothing to do with the fact that Lance Armstrong is a bike demon.
    I doubt that the 'Tour De Freedom' get's much coverage in the USA.

    I've got one. Johnny from drunkcyclist is a good guy. He's supported some of my ventures, so I felt compelled to do the same.

    honestly, I don't really know the history behind it.

    all I know is that the yellow part came from the yellow leaders jersey of the tour that Lance is oh so familiar with and live strong is his personal mantra.

    I think he just decided to implement it into his cancer work to help raise money.

    this is too wierd....

    so this thread is started yesterday.....
    and last night when I get home my roomate hands me a real
    liveSTRONG bracelet that she bought for me. How fucked is that?
    See up here in the Tundra, they are rare. I'm curious to see what
    people say when they see me wearing it. but now.....

    I have to get a livewrong one.
