anonymity1
I mainly use my computer for making beats, I never play games but I need a decent video card. I was checking out www.pro-star.com, they've got some good deals. Has anyone heard anything bad about this company?

yoink
well different strokes for different folks. i know Chad Muska pretty much did his whole album on his laptop I think he had a g4 powerbook as well. I would reccomend apple, I had a pc all my life recently converted to apple and Im a full fledged apple fan now. dont get me wrong there are some damn good pcs out there, but I like the powerbook line and pretty much most of the people I know here have apples. Kilos running a pretty sweet beat program on his pc laptop maybe you should find out what he has and how it runs.

seeking
your not gonna be getting shit for 1300 bucks. there are plenty of artists who've made entire albums on a laptop. million record selling albums. the problem is that with 1300 bucks, you cant buy much laptop. music production is both very processor dependent, and ram dependent. if you dont have a powerful processor and a shit load of ram, forget about it, you wont be able to make anything. if thats all you've got, stick with a desktop. come up wiith another 700 bucks and yyou're in business. (at which point id go with a mac)

anonymity1
Thanks for your help but let me clarify things a little. I've just begun learning how to make, I am not in the vicinity of thinking about an album. I think 512MB should do me fine. Keep in mind, I am a college student and I just need a cmoputer of my own and this is a free $1300

seeking
im telling you from experience that 512mg will not be enough. ive got 640 in my 600mhz g3 ibook, and i have issues. if all you're going to do is screw with some cheap ass shit freeware program where you dump two samples on top of eachother, then you can get away with it, anything more complex and you'll likely have issues. sony vaio's: ive heard some pretty bad things about them as well, which is surprising since sony is generally a really quality company. i would look around on either ebay, or preferably apple.com for a refurbished ibook. you can get pretty much the same set up ive got (dvd, cd-r etc) for about 12-1300. (i paid 18 a year and a half ago). whatever you get, try and get a warranty. apple has the option of 'apple care' which for $250 bucks gives you an extra 2 years of warranty...the first time you have any prroblem, that just paid for itself, since its about $250 just to get someplace to look at it. anyway, whatever, get what you want, i should be at work, my head hurts. yoink
word, if theres one thing id say, dont get a vaio, my desktop went complete to shit after not even a year, and everyone else i know with one has had problems with em. I know a few kids with the new compaqs and they like them, mostly doing animation work on it, (512) ram...but my personal preference is against compaqs.
