  15. This was the flag we would have had, had the Lares uprising against the Spanish government in 1868 been succesful:

    But, since that went nowhere, it wasn't until 1895 that the new flag was unveiled by a group of puertorrican independence fighters within the Cuban Revolutionary Party named Sección Puerto Rico. It was designed with the same layout to demonstrate fraternity towards the people in Cuba, long considered Puerto Rico's sister land.

    Three years later, Puerto Rico was under the command of the United States of America.
