Freeport and Surfside Beach took a big ass beating too. Three beach houses had shorted electrical systems and burned to the waterline in the middle of a Class I hurricane. The Freeport Fire Department rescued four generations of people from one beach house that disintegrated in the high winds. If there had not been counter-blowing winds that caused something called "shear" it would have been much worse. Here in Houston (sixty miles from the Gulf) it rained hard. That was it.
