How has 12oz/graffiti impacted your life?

For some people maybe this place is just some bullshit message board where they like to post irrelevant things, or for others maybe it is much more.

What, if anything, has being a member of this board, or if you write, being a writer, done to change you?

Some examples of mine.

Graffiti as a whole has taught/given me a lot.

First, it was the only thing in my life where I saw it one day, said I want to learn that shit, and successfully did so.

It taught me to have patience and to work at something and eventually it would all come together. It taught me to appreciate art. To appreciate others styles. And it just gave me a unique hobby that not many can do or even understand and I feel that it sets me apart from people.

And being a member of 12oz has also given positively to my life in many ways.

I have been on these boards for about 3 years, but never really posted until I had this handle.

I started coming here when I was about 14. I was always a smart kid, but just with school. I didn't know shit about the world.

Coming here and reading through everything has definatly contributed to me being a much different person.

-I went from listening to mtv-rap to listening to good hiphop because of this place.

-I went from hating books to reading a lot of books because of this place.

-I went from just watching popular movies with a lot of action to watching movies and documentaries that actually make you think because of this place.

-I learned a lot about life and how to deal with things from reading through threads where people would post serious problems that happen to them and such.

-Reading through all the discussions about whatever they may be about always helped to give me a better understanding of things.

-Plus just the small things like seeing news articles or movie reviews that I would have probably never been aware of had it not been posted on 12oz.

I know that things probably wouldn't have had such an impact on an older person, but coming up at that age where your mind is still very open and a lot can change, I would say 12oz and the whole graffiti scene has changed me to a different person.

Being with all the people I know who don't have a fucking clue about ANYTHING proves to me that, had I not went out on my own and taught myself graff and went out and sucked up as much information and insight about everything as I could, I would just be another clueless fuck.

Thank you vandalism and thank you 12oz.

Felonies expunged? How are you gonna manage that one?

I like this site but I dont usually travel outside of channel 0. Just for the most part that I dont really look at other peoples graffiti. I do my own thing and try to keep it as pure as i can. I have read some interesting books and seen some interesting movies because of this place. Being one of the first people to find out about this site so many years ago, it has sucked so many hours of my life away... I can't even count that high.

This place is pretty cool I guess.

well, first the 12oz question.

I would say that i have met a lot of cool people off here, some in person, some just phone calls, others just aim, but i still consider them to be friends, or e-friends that are pretty cool. THey still offer up places for me to stay in every state, which most of the heads are welcome to from me if they need it, most are cool. I mean, me and gambers are gonna meet up in atlanta when he comes, i have a few friends comin out sometime soon, casek, mltfantom, makeithappen, and a few others.

Now, graffiti deffanitly has. I think its the one stable thing goin for me, i mean school and all, but there will always be "damn, imma go paint" no matter what state or time of day. I have met some amazing people through it, and it gives me a completely different view on life and things. Ive become a bit of a rail fan, and look at almost every train i see, flick lots.

So, yes, both have changed me

Yo, Gucci, I feel your post large. I’m glad that 12oz has had such a positive influence on you. I also feel you on the graffiti part. It is pretty cool how something that was so foreign to me one day become a giant part of my life. I realize that the negative things that graffiti has done for me outweigh the positives but even negatives can be positive experiences. I guess one positive would be some of the good friends and connections I have made.

Oh yeah, and my buddy was saying how I have a lot of buddies. Because I’m like, “yeah, my buddy told me that there will be a PrAlien in the AVP flick.” He’s like, “What buddy?” and I’m like “This dude, El…nevermind.”

graffiti has changed my life so much it would take a long time to explain all the ways it's done so.

i consider my 12oz time just an extension of all those changes, cuz i wouldn't be here if it wasn't for graffiti.

the major changes have come from meeting people, travelling, getting better at what i do

and being involved in graf shows and events.

Graffiti exposed me to all sorts of gritty situations, a whole range of different social situations, taught me to rely on myself in life and added to my game so i started hooking up with hot girls.

12oz...well, 12oz taught me that no matter how good your intentions are, your thread can still bomb like Ted Kazynski(sp)

12oz has given me gas, silence, drunken humor, porn, cough syrup, lust, hatred, and some stickers.

graffiti has given me all of the above, with the exception of getting laid...wait...ok, neither have gotten me laid.

i need to go and reflect, now. seems like i must be doing something wrong.

id be lying if i said the ounce hadnt contributed to my life somehow...

its linked me up with older heads to loop up to / be schooled by (god bless On my travels)

its taught be countless facts about how to keep safe while painting.

its taught me the "art" of graff, in one way to speak.

its made me friends...

12oz: Connected me with writers and graffiti from other corners of the world... Allowed me to express myself... It has made me somewhat of a ghetto celebrity.. Provided me with plenty of stolen photos that I could never catch... Provided my photos for others to cherish..

Thank you 12oz.

Graffiti: My obsession, passion, and vice. It grew on me faster than poison ivy at an early age. It separated me from the norm, and allowed me to express myself in ways only few enjoy. I love it. I hate it. My life encompasses it.

Thank you graffiti.
