Considering what a hassle it is to fix this situation surgically, they usually opt to make a hermaphrodite baby into a sterile girl, and she is then raised in the female gender. Most of the time there is an insufficient penis and maybe testicles, an intact vagina or at least part of one, and ovaries, but sometimes no uterus. They remove the penis and testicles (if testicles exist) surgically modify the vagina to as close to a working model of the real McCoy as they can, and leave the ovaries for hormones. In the absence of a male level of testosterone, and with the prescence of ovaries and estrogen, the hermaphrodite develops into a "girl" with breasts, etc., but no period, because there usually is no uterus if there was a penis and testicles. Wierd, I know. I once knew a woman who had a sex change from female-to-male. She was a lesbian, and wanted to go "all the way." She had two sons who were bikers. She worked in a shipyard in Galveston, Texas. But so far as I'm aware, I never knew a transgendered male-to-female conversion, but shit, how would you know? If it happened in infancy, like with a hermaphrodite child, she would grow up looking just like a little girl, wider hips, breasts, etc. In adulthood, a transgendered male often has the build of a man--wide shoulders, heavier muscled arms, narrower hips, and a deeper masculine voice. One thing about repair of hermaphroditism I didn't mention is that , similar to the way they transgender a male-to-female, sometimes in order to create a viable, working vagina, they remove the internals of the "penis" (or the small organ that would have been a penis if this poor kid had turned out to be a male) and "reverse out" the penis to create a vaginal lining, leaving the nerves, blood vessels and so on intact. That way when little Bobby, er, I mean Roberta, grows up, when she has sexual intercourse it will be pleasurable. Ya gotta think ahead in these matters, ya know? According to what I've read, transgendered male-to-females (and presumably, little ex-hermaphrodite kids that are grown-up adults) can achieve a good degree of sexual intimacy and a high degree of orgasmic experience. Not 100% probably, but a dang site better than nothing. And best of all, instead of being a "wierd, deformed" boy, they are raised as 100% A-OK girls.
