This sort of thing happens a lot, there was an IRC channel that a "friend" told me about, where "he" went and got a credit card number to get access to a porn site when "he" was still in high school. What sucks is that anyone could have your number, all it takes is one shady clerk to copy your number and expiration date down and then post it on the internet for all their phishing pals. The only thing you can really do is cancel that card, and at least be thankful that the credit card company hasn't been a dick about it, yet. Also make sure the reciepts you throw away don't have the whole card number and expiration date, some stores don't try and cover that up which is pretty lame. They would order PC's to vacant cribs and pick them up, order dildos to peoples houses that they wanted to 'own', and used them for porn sites and the such. iloveboxcars Posted December 23, 2004 Author Share Posted December 23, 2004 there are acouple of ways they might have gotten it. awhile back my anti-virus was alittle late in the detection of a trojan and i might have purchased something online inbetween the time a got the virus and the time it was deleted. i also ordered pizza over the phone with my credit card. either way, before i buy anything online again im running my anti-virus. the total ammount has yet to be revealed. i do know they did enough damage to stop any more transactions from happening on my card (i have a 500 dollar limit) but im not sure if they went the full 500 or what. this turned out to be a terrible day. im tired as fuck. T=E=A=S=E Posted December 23, 2004 Share Posted December 23, 2004 ps- sorry to hear about that man, that is such a shitty thing to do to someone, especially considering its the holidays. i know my bank card has like a photo id on it and not only that, my spending habits are so consistant that anything out of the ordinary i could easily fight off and get my money back from that shit... i only shop at like bestbuy, circuit city and fry's... maybe a few other spots but those are the main ones. i did have a gas card get stolen once and they were already a few cities away when i had noticed, i called in and mad gas was charged on that shit, but the gas company acknowledged that the likely-hood of me being in a few different cities in less than a matter of days was very unlikely and took the charges off my card.... fucking assholes these people are.
