Let's hear your stories. Some things you might wanna include... 1. Did you get hurt/hurt someone else 2. Fight with the riot police? 3. didja inhale tear gas? stingy or sinus clearing? 4. nomadawhat Posted August 20, 2004 Share Posted August 20, 2004 I have been in several sports related riots. even though i don't really consider those riots. just mass drunken mentality. the ones i were at were in michigan in @ 92 and denver 98. both of them i was tear gassed... pretty bad at the first one. i remember running and then falling to my knees in the grass because i couldn't see anymore. that stuff stings. this one got out of hand when the police tried to split up the gathering by forcing their horses down the middle of a crowded street, knocking people over and flexing their authority. . the other riot was more out of control....it was after the broncos won the super bowl. there were fires, cars flipping, windows breaking, bottle tossing. i even got that on video.. i'm surpised that people let me tape them and that no one tried to take the camera. i was more of a spectator than a participant for this one. As far as i can remember when I lived over seas, the turkish people had a rally every year or some shit and one year everything went wrong. The riot squad was out an fools were throwing rocks and getting chased by police and beating fools up. Shit was crazy. I think i was in like 3rd or 4th grade. Then there was a riot years ago in my city. I think it jumped off when some cop was found not guilty of murdering some black kid and as soon as the news got out all hell broke loose. There were tanks and tear gas and all kinds of shit getting looted. That was crazy. Honestly, riots are fuckin scarey cuz people just lose their fuckin mind and do what ever. Mr. Peanut Posted August 21, 2004 Share Posted August 21, 2004 i think it was the 96 world series that the yankees won...but i went to the ticker tape (sp?) parade with my dad. apparantly everyone was pissed that there were baracades and they couldnt get close enough to the streets. so everyone started breakin shit down and the whole crowd was rushing up. i got picked up off my feet and was literally carried by the crowd. i fell under and people started climbing over me. all i remember is seeing a hand held out to me and i grabbed it and was pulled up. people in the surrounding buildings were throwing shit outta windows. some random lady that was rite next to me got smashed in the head by a falling phone book. she fell on her ass and i got the fuck away from her. i wasn't looking to stand around in the debris radius of that building. somehow i found my dad and we tried to get away from the rush. riot control showed up and cops on horses were clubbing random people on the head. i saw alot of unconsious people get stacked into paddy wagons. people were climbing ontop of every car in sight trying to flip them over. it got pretty out of hand. no tear gas as far as i can remember. i don't know if it was really a riot. probably more of a shindig or a skermish. i'll always remember that woman getting layed out by a falling phone book. go yankees! Most famous incident in Copenhagen was the Uefa-final 1999/2000 between turkish Galatasaray and english Arsenal. The turks had met english Leeds in the semis and two english supporters had been stabbed to death in Istanbul. So when it was time for the final, all the english fans wanted revenge. To make things even better (or worse) the biggest immigrant living here is turkish. So you had two huge groups coming here, and everyone was ready for action. Around noon on games day, the whole thing explode in the City Center Square and several hundred people from both sides went totally bananas and tried to murder eachother for a few hours. Police had no control even though they had been all over the media talking about their tactics and intellingence wouldnt let anything major happen. But when football and nationalistic passion kicks in there is no stopping a major football riot. Since I wasnt fighting for either side, I was just trying to stay in the area and observe without getting killed, caught by police, hit by flying object or gassed with teargas... I saw a guy lying on the ground a another guy dropping a huge block of concrete straight on his head... That was bloody. Also seeing the english getting stabbed all over, since the turks didnt give a shit about the "hooligan-code" of not using weapons". I had to tell a big, sweaty, fat english man that he a had a big stabwound in his back with blood running out. He hadnt even noticed it cause he was all hyoed on adrenalin (and drugs?)
