Guest Pilau Hands
love slide night here are a few artists whose work came up today. whether old favorites or justlearnedabouts, each had at least one work that made me "WOW!" thought i'd share. i need to check on some names so hopefully i can add soon. GamblersGrin
there is a very good chuck close documentary that aired about 5 years ago on pbs. it is called "chuck close: a portrait." i dont recall him mentioning kandinsky but it appears to me to at least be an influence. GamblersGrin
i also see you posted a pollock piece. a few years back (and the chuck close documentary you can at least find but this is another story) the museum of modern art in ny held a massive pollock retrospective. im pretty sure it was the largest ever of his stuff. they had a lifesize recreation of the barn he used to paint in, and once you stepped in it, it was hard to believe he painted, let alone kept his huge paintings in there. it was something else. serum
i saw a chuck close exhibit about 5 years ago and those black and white squares with grey cirlces in them turning into a photo real portrait blew my mind. thanks, i like the david reed paintings. cool effect. did anyone ever see that recent pollack film? i never got a chance to see it and was wondering how it came out. ciste
I like that David Reed stuff. Not a fan of Kandinsky or Pollock though. Frank Stella is somebody that just blows me away everytime I look at his work. He inspired to do the wireframe stuff that I do. http://www.meyerovich.com/stella/stella/04stella.jpg'> http://www.meyerovich.com/stella/stella/p-plutusia.jpg'> http://www.meyerovich.com/stella/stella/06stella.jpg'> This guys like Franics Bacon, but his stuff is awesome. SteveAustin
good stuff. Mark Rothko His work is incredibly simple yet I've always been a big fan.: http://www.lindamann.com/otherpainters/rothko.jpg'> http://www.nga.gov/kids/kandinsky/rothko-big.jpg'> http://home.olemiss.edu/~slarson/isit/oldstuff/rothko.jpg'> http://www.the-artists.org/artshop/media/rothko-marc.jpg'> http://www.kristisiegel.com/rothko.jpg'> http://home.speedsite.com/puck/images/rothko%20red.jpg'> http://digilander.libero.it/sinewaves/rothko04.jpg'>

Guest Pilau Hands
-ciste i'm not really a great fan of pollock splatter paintings, but some of the ink and blot-like stuff i saw was great. the examples of david reed's work i saw were incredible. actually, the shapes of some of them reminded my of some your more linear pieces. i'm trying to get a spellcheck on a few more names so i can add
Guest imported_El Mamerro
I enjoy Rothko heavily. Not too thrilled by the Frank Stella, though that's because of personal taste reasons. The guy is obviously talented. For the purpose of adding someone lesser known and more contemporary, I'm gonna bigup my man Alfred DeCredico, drawing teacher of mine freshman year in college. Some of his stuff is eh, but some others are pretty badass and fun... though they lose a LOT when looked at through a monitor. It's not the same as actually seeing a leopard head pop out of the canvas. http://www.decredico.com/Images/pt_pio.jpg'> The Contemplations of Padro Pio, 1993 mixed media on canvas and wood with wood crutch, snake, bone, sheep pelt, fox pelt, boat cable, and spring 78 x 93 x 2 in. http://www.decredico.com/Images/pt_pont.jpg'> La Selva Oscura: Pontiff, 1996 mixed media on canvas and wood with leopard head, pelts and lights 90 x 106 x 7 in http://www.decredico.com/Images/pt_rig.jpg'> As Rigoletto: Parts, 1991 mixed media on rubber, wood, and fur mounted on wood 70 x 107 in. http://www.decredico.com/Images/pt_tur.jpg'> As Turridu: Dark Diver, 1991 mixed media on rubber and wood with birch sticks, boat cable, turnbuckles, and screweyes 72 x 110 x 4 in. http://www.decredico.com/Images/pt_mens.jpg'> La Mensa Abicus, 1993 mixed media on canvas and wood with antlers and light bulb 78 x 93 x 2 1/2 in. http://www.decredico.com/Images/pt_det4.jpg'> Detail of the above. ciste
Mamero, Those are nice. Id like to see them in person. I dont like Frank Stella's early works, but his newer stuff is just incredible to me. Pilau, I actually do like some of Pollock's earlier stuff. And I understand the concept behind his splatter paintings as well, but it just boils down to personal taste. This guys one of my favorites. I cant link his images because he has a Flash site, but heres a link http://www.jimrosenquist-artist.com/ And it may be trendy to say this, but Robert Williams is definitely one of my favorites. swiss cheese
ive seen all the others previous, but that last set is new to me and I like it very MUCH. I wish I could see the rich texture that is obviously lacking in these images.
ciste
A little less abstract, but he ties it in very well.
