Definitely prime it...if you think plywood is porous, cavas is way more porous. That's why painters prime their canvases with gesso.

You should get either gesso or primer to prime your plywood (primer is probably cheaper).

Sheetrock or drywall would also be very porous and require lots of priming.

I stongly discourage anyone from painting on drywall.

Drywall (as in DRY) can not get wet or it will go mushy.

Some of it can actually have a reation to the paint.

If you've ever painted untreated styrofoam you'll recognize the effects.

yeah... so dont use drywall.

if anything... use primed masonite.

It's thin, strong, not porus and ready to paint.

(but prime it anyways!)

white paint on plywood works

remember if you prime it you thrn have to paint it before you can spray on it.

primer only creates a surface that brush paint can be properly applied to, its like paint glue sort of .

where is your show tree?

they usually want you to have all canvas work, or you could do an installation. on the walls of the space.

good luck.

if your lucky you might make some dough!

It taks sooo much primer, and it's still particled and porous.

it depends on the grade of wood... yeah, if you get D grade wood it'll be shitty, but if you get A grade it's totally smooth, and not too porous... two coats of primer tops...
