Big Bruno
plywood is alright, you just gotta prime it first
KASTsystem
Definitely prime it...if you think plywood is porous, cavas is way more porous. That's why painters prime their canvases with gesso. You should get either gesso or primer to prime your plywood (primer is probably cheaper). Sheetrock or drywall would also be very porous and require lots of priming. Guest --zeSto--
I stongly discourage anyone from painting on drywall. Drywall (as in DRY) can not get wet or it will go mushy. Some of it can actually have a reation to the paint. If you've ever painted untreated styrofoam you'll recognize the effects. yeah... so dont use drywall. if anything... use primed masonite. It's thin, strong, not porus and ready to paint. (but prime it anyways!)

vinyl junkie
masonite=expensive... and it's also very slick, paint tends to move, and not stay where you want it... at least in my experience... as to what to use, i would recommend primed 1/4 in. plywood... When
masonite is very fucking expensive, back in the day my friends dad built him a halfpipe outta the shit and it set him back quite a bit

Pistol
Personally I would go with some Plywood from the lumber yard and prime it up good. I think using plywood would keep the work from looking to artsy. Keep it kinda 'raw'. It sounds corny but... but then again I DON'T have a gallery showcasing my shit. Guest --zeSto--
I'm telling you guys... plywood is shit. It taks sooo much primer, and it's still particled and porous.
ultraflat
white paint on plywood works remember if you prime it you thrn have to paint it before you can spray on it. primer only creates a surface that brush paint can be properly applied to, its like paint glue sort of . where is your show tree? they usually want you to have all canvas work, or you could do an installation. on the walls of the space. good luck. if your lucky you might make some dough! Big Bruno
ive done some work on plywood, actually it was shitty particle board, but all i did was use kilz primer with a brush to prime it then let it dry and spray right on to it. worked fine for me
