no if saddam didn't start accepting the E.U.'s Euro currency for oil, instead of exclusively using the dollar as before, this wouldn't be happening to them. the facty that they're non-white and non-christian is just an added bonus to market the war toward white-americans

two societies, one is run tyrannically, basically the population has little choice and are kept 'in line' primarily by a constant threat of physical violence, the other is a

democratic society where individuals are basically free to accept or reject the governments policies, where threats of physical violence from the government are not tolerated by the population, but where a measure of control and obedience must be implemented and followed to maintain the stucture of power and 'order', a system to 'manage' the masses..

enter public relations, or what used to be called in more honest times, propaganda.

chomsky called this 'necessary illusion' and the vehicle that drove this manipulation was the corporate media. by utilizing the media and its ability to affect opinion and trigger powerful emotions of patriotism(self glorification and suspension of self analysis) and fear, the US executive apparatus has actively used delusory tactics on its own population. some of you are so indoctrinated to this black and white demonization and war that you seem almost in favour of completely ignoring all objective analysis while constantly demeaning it as idiotic, insensitive and unpatriotic and that somehow this objective stance equals support for saddam hussein and a remorseless cold hearted detachment from the troops ‘fighting to preserve the safety of the world’, while you don't seem to give a shit about the innocent iraqi people that are dying from bombs you pay for while you chill in your laz-e-boy all tough and pro-war(but not enlisted).

chomsky talked about war/violence/propaganda, and he broke it down like this, with 3 types of large scale violence:

benign bloodbaths-atrocities that nobody knows~cares about, primarily but not exclusively due to media omission.

an example of this would be indonesia's genocide of the population of timor. north american press at the time dedicated squat to this event, while hundreds of thousands of people were slaughtered, even while the carter administration was signing deals to sell weaponry to the indonesians, making profit from genocide. corporate media is so powerful now that it not only documents history, it now approaches the power to decide what IS history. panama is another good example. rwanda. etc.

constructive bloodbath-violence perpetrated, probably in most cases by democratic states, under the guise of some urgent and immediate threat to the 'order' of that state or the world at large. a 'noble' and 'just' cause(bloodbath).

nefarious bloodbath-the atrocities only the bad guys are guilty of.

none of these are really any different from one another are they? a bloodbath is a bloodbath, there is no such thing as one act of extreme violence holding moral supremacy over another act of extreme violence, although the means may differ. in reality we're actually led to believe there is a difference beyond the means, that indeed there is a moral case for extreme violence, the difference being who conducts the violence, and who forcibly receives it. right now its saddam the nefarious bloodbaathist, blackballed by the self imposed moral voice of the planet, the constructive bloodbathers, the united states. there was a time when both were quite pally. so pally in fact that they supported the baath party for years and eventually decided to cut some business deals, deals that were for all intents and purposes, made for profits(contructive-US) and death(nefarious-IRAQ). a credibly proven fact. is there an ethical difference here between the executioner and the one who sold the guillotine knowing full well it would be used? the US government based its case for war against saddam hussein and the innocent people of iraq by relentlessly underlining saddam hussein's moral bankruptcy while doing it with lies, fabrications, coercion, veiled and overt threats, and most of all DOUBLE STANDARDS, a sad and fragmented but relentless PR campaign to try and win the moral support of the country and world. it didn’t work so good though. politically marginalized by the world and painted into a corner the US said fuck it, we don’t need all this measured inspections bullshit, debate and credible proof, we do what we want with our military weight, just like our old buddy saddam used to do.

osama got you all in check.
