That's crazy. They want poor people to have access to information too?

New York too? Fuck yeah! My internet connection is mad expensive, and it only works about half the time. I would buy stock in google if it wasn't already so high.

^^ Read through every single bit and byte.

This is cool, a corporation doing something with it's money other than hoarding it.

Keep in mind what Arcel said. Google is a corporation, not some mysterious benefactor out to improve the lives of the public. Their technology and focus lie in the easy cataloging and searching of massive sets of data.

They could easily expand upon this to include every piece of text you've ever sent or received while using their wireless service for example, and there are people who would want that kind of search.

Then again, similar things are already in place anyway, so it's good that this will be free.

Maybe the city could make a stipulation in the contract prohibiting them from selling or giving out that information. That'd be cool.

I was already stealing WiFi from someone in my building...Then the moved and I have to let Time Warner continually abuse me every month in the way of me paying them more money than I'd like to. (Note: I'd LIKE to give them $0.00)

    I like free.

there are grips of empty pipes running all throughout the area, and grips of "dark fiber" everywhere. ive heard major politicians of the area rumor-milling a major metro area fiber-optic network. what i dont understand is why do politicians and corperations what access to the information highway for everyone?
