I disagree.

Having the perfect font and being able to use it properly is key.

I like the font 'Alako', It's playfull and fun, plus very well built for an informal script.

buy................ fonts.............????

i think i'll stick to www.1001freefonts.com...... yeah, i know, most of them aren't even anti-aliased, and are cheesy, but still........ it's better than spending $125 on some fonts.......

i'm not saying i've never "evaulated" a typeface, but creating them takes a ton of work...and the designers who sit there and create multiple weight font families deserve to get paid...

in some instances i'll bill a client for a specific font if it's used in their project..i've bought fonts from friends who designed them but in most cases i wouldn't pay for a font if i'm not sure i'm gonna use it on a paying gig...

yeah it's all about payment.

I've had clients mock something up with a certain font

and then forget to bring a copy of it along with them.

That's a pain, but then we can always buy it online

on their tab and we get to keep it. wheeeee!!!

alas, all i have is adobe fontfolio--which isn't so bad because it has all the staple fonts like baskerville, garamond, franklin gothic, and univers. even though i rarely use univers because it's BUSTED!!!! OHHHHHHHHHHHH. yeah steve, you heard me.

fonts that i want:

akzidenz grotesque

interstate

gotham

base nine

a couple months back I considered drawing my own face--a kind of hybrid between futura condensed and franklin gothic. I was only going to draw uppercase characters because i had intended it to be used as display type, specifically for stacking the characters on top of one another in a very orderly fashion. after drawing 3 characters, i soon realized just how much time and patience is required to develop a typeface. needless to say, the kidlugz font will not be making its debut anytime soon.
