boxcarwilly Posted February 17, 2002 Author Share Posted February 17, 2002 to answer several questions: vanity- yes i painted temples, but before you flipout, remember India is a whole lot different from here, there is "devotional" graffiti everywhere glorifying radharani, (radhe) in the city i was in and i was just adding style to it, one was an actual permission the first one, and the second and third were basically okayed by locals who treated me to food and company, the only complaint i got was that i couldnt paint it in Devanagari... but they loved it, and i have already heard of locals sketching out letters and putting flowers and nick nacks around my paintings, the lettering is not different from a picture in traditional vaishnava sects... so i was just painting for radharani, krsnas girlfriend. sofarok- no i took advice from sonik3000 when i told him i was going to paint rural india, thus using only what the locals could get there hands on in case i sparked some interest with the kids... i bought paint at the local bazaar, and brushes and the hardest thing to find was mineral spirits (thinner) because if you have ever seen indian painting they like their colors real thick and bright. boxcarwilly Posted February 19, 2002 Author Share Posted February 19, 2002 i wasnt in towns long enough to research the layups... but in India almost anything goes if you were painting a passenger youd either get shot or paid... i am goingback next winter to basically paint everything i am working on a trek from the himalayas to westbengal with a lot of paint. as for camels they already get painted, but id be down tobust some streakers on them... as not to diss the local talent.
