"We could not believe that we would have to remove a dead fetus weighing a kilogram from a child weighing 6.5 kilograms," Dr. Pradip Kumar Mukherjee, who led the team of Calcutta doctors that operated on the boy on Monday, told Reuters. "It is a rare case." Doctors use the medical term "fetus in fetu" to describe a phenomenon in which an imperfect fetus is contained within the body of its sibling.
