ethical question: CAN I BUFF ??

let me ask you an ethical question...

(I expect biased opinions, but I want to know what you think.)

Situation:

I'm in a new apartment above a store.

My door is covered in tags, many of which are mine.

And there's others of writers I know and respect.

The Door is Green and it's right in between a

Flower stand and a Fruit Market. The place is beautiful.

I want to paint the door back to flat green.

Question:

Is it ethical to do a 'buff'?

The landlord would do it, but he doesn't really care about shit.

The 2nd appartment doesn't give a damn (summer sub-let).

I want this place to be as nice as possible,

but because of my personal involvement in graffitit,

I'd feel bad about buffing some of the other people.

It's not like it's anything special... just tags, no rips.

so what should I do?

if you feel that buffing the door would make the area in which you live a nicer place to be, by all means do it. you said that alot of the tags on the door are yours, and other writers that you know so i think that since you know them they should understand and not have a problem with it. there only tags, it's not a burner on the side of your building you're buffing, just a few scribbles done by you and your boys on a door

well yes... good points

but these are some of the top names in the Country (of Canada).

But I supose that if the entire door gets painted it's ok.

I wouldn't be good if I left mine up.

And I'd make a point to keep the door clean.

That's the hard part.

hahaha !!

I dont think you're on it.

But I know that you know some of the names that are.

It's hard to paint over the bricklayers.

I'm going to have to keep a bucket of paint handy and cover it weekly.

buff it...

you will probably have an amusing experience getting the buff's side of the story...

the door will look nice and clean for a day or twoo..

then

it will get hit

again

and again

and somemore

then you'll buff it again

and it will get hit

again

and again

and again

..then you'll buff it again..

sense a pattern here?

here's my advantage....

studies have shown that Green is the safest graffiti colour.

People just dont like hitting dark green. Maybe because it's a natural colour,

or because black doesn't show up so well.

And the door is hard to see in the summer because of the fruit stand

on one side and the flower stand on the other.

and then there's the 'broken window senario' we all know and love.

so unless someone makes a point of being on my door

(which could happen), I should stay clean.

is there a secret knock for it too?

contradiction is that you say you want the place "nice" and want to eradicate the "ugly" aspect, and that is the writing..some of which you had done....scratching my head at this one...

Now there is an understanding of how business owners feel.

devils advocate day.

not true, in my town the mailboxes are dark green, and they get crushed just the same with paint pens and such.

not entirely true...

Busines owners have to clean it or risk looking business.

I'm not in business, so I dont feel an economic pressure to clean it.

I want to do it because the place was a bit of a 'flop' before.

The doors were never locked, garbage never went out,

noise complaints were issued, shit got wrecked...

I dont mind the tags on the door,

in fact... I bet that I'm in the Top 5 Doors of all them fourm members.

It's one of those "out with the old..." situations.

I want a nice, new, clean, home.

Paint the door dude, the tip is that you paint it and then you place the door upside down...in that way if someone wants to write he has to stand on his hands, which is something very very few and really skilled writers can do...:spent: :spent: :spent:

Buff it. I just bought where I live and someone has it up the front of it, so I'm going to buff that. Shit a few tags on a door weren't going to last forever anyway..

Lemme Get This Straight

You write, and you want to paint your door green because it is the SAFEST GRAFITTI COLOR? Man, I feel like this is the Twilight Zone. You go out and hit other people's property, but you want your own door to remain un-tagged? An you want your area to remain "as nice as possible?" Am I the only one who thinks this is hilarious? This would be like me wishing homeless people would stop begging at traffic lights in my neighborhood. "Get a job, ya loser." LOL.

Is that from dougweb or some other dipshit site? Green is one of my favorite backgrounds, especially metal...QGRY, MDW, BN, IBT, BNFE, BRIX hoppers, mailboxes, doors, bridge girders. You buff that door, ima come up there and bomb it.

I got the info from a Rec&Parks info sheet for local business.

If you come up to hit my Green door,

I'll expect you to hit a Green Heinenken bottle too!
