name dropping, spot blowing

i'm just curious if anyone here has heard of a guy who wrote in the early 90s or around there. I go to school with this kid who says he used to write "back in the day". He told me he did "ding dongs"...but...he's not much older then me, and they stopped running trains in nyc that had graffiti on them a while back. so where are these trains that this character supposedly painted.

anyway, if you've heard of him (or haven't) please let me know, i'd love to show him some posts proving him full of shit

thanks for your time

no matter what your reasons, we will not tolerate name dropping, you want to the flicks of his trains then get HIM to prove it

I'm confused.

I have been on 12 oz for about a year maybe and I'm a bit hazy on the rules. I get the no advertising policy and the sticky thread seems to lay out the guidelines on what is considered advertising.

Where I'm a bit lost if the name dropping policy. Are we to not mention writers handles? How exactly can I discuss the new piece by -arbitrary writer's name- without actually writing the name? I fully respect the intention to protect writers by not divulging specific information that might lead to a bust, but I'm of the opinion that the essence of the graf scene is discussing who is doing what; good and bad, kings and toys.

I also can dig on the need to protect certain spots from blowing up, spots to write, spots to rack, etc. But would I get into trouble for posting that this piece got buffed in this part of this town in 1 day. Information like that is one of the positive uses of a graf network like 12oz. - so writers can be on top of their game and not waste time, energy, and paint. I don't want to help the cops, but I certainly want to discuss more than Style Wars and how to mix paint. Basically - I just need some clarification on what is acceptable to post publicly and what isn't. Where does 'name dropping' end and 'graf discussion' end.

And why can we not discuss stealing? This forum doesn't condone stealing by allowing people to discuss it, it condones the right to free speech and the right to discuss stealing. It isn't like 12oz. is afraid to allow poeple to talk about illegal activities - obviously. Graffiti -by it's definition- is illegal.

Or maybe I am wrong. Maybe the crew of 12oz. can get is trouble for allowing others to discuss stealing on their forums. This does not seem to be the case though.

I'm not wanting to cause trouble. I just want to know the rules of posting. And I think these rules (or guidelines) should be open for debate and discussion. If anything should be deleted by the administrators it should be all the the homophobic and sexist comments - or the stupid, 'get my post # up' replies that simply have a full quote from a previous post with the comment "right on."

Thanks for your time.

1st to MikeG... for what it's worth, I have heard of that name and I think it came from around then... but I don't know about what he hit

2nd, Graff Orlok ... mainly it comes down to this... if you're discussing a place, don't mention writers names, if you're discussing a writer, don't give location... One of the things that seems to get condused alot is when people start a thread about a location, i.e. "Bay Area Writers"... this is just a big cop magnet, every cop who browses around here that has ANY interest in the bay is going to that thread first. Then, 10 posts into the thread somebody starts dropping names and someone else argues with them, sometimes droppping more name, sometimes spots...

This also isn't really the thread to discuss it but... bottom line is we're providing a forum to discuss an art form. It happens to be against the law but we are all concientious objectors in this sense. Theft, however, is straight up crime, no 2 ways about it. You can call it 'racking' and dress it up by saying that you're gonna put the stolen items to good use, but it's still theft.

So how is talking about a writer from the bay area in 'Third Rail' any different from posting flicks by someone and talking about them in 'The Bench'. Shit, on that forum, people talk names, places, crews AND the cops have photos as evidence...

I've seen enough name dropping on this board to take over a sunday sewing circle. When someone's jocking Revok or AWR, it's okay - their giving "respect"... but when I say something about a little known writer in my city, all of a sudden it's "name dropping"? (Shit they aren't getting up - they should have no worries!) Be consistent at least.

Why don't you address Graf Orlok's point on the homophobia, racist and sexist posts on Channel Zero - the porn, and the so called porn-that's-not-quite-raunchy-enough-to-be-considered "porn"...posted by crew members because they feel like it?

I happen to agree with you about the Bench... if you're concerned with equity and see a post that needs to be cleaned up then hit the 'warn' button... and Channel Zero is Chnnel Zero for a reason... in fact all of the reasons you named and more

I see

I see what your saying and respect the people who are running this forum. I just get a little rowdy when it comes censorship, even when it is just politely asking us to watch what we say.

Who was it that said: "While I may disapprove with what you have to say, I will fight to the death for your right to say it."

Nathan Hale? Some 18th century American patriot. Disapprove? I'll bust a cap in you ass!

ANother question going on in my head is - has 12oz. come under some heat recently? Was a cop on the board sighted and confirmed? Has a bust been officially attributed to information assertained from 12oz.prophet.com? I can understand if this info is kept under wraps. But thanks for the clarification on the why.

Your not into the idea of being able to go from looking at flicks to nealry nude girls?? I understand the argument on the homophobia and the racism but if your not interested simply dont go into those threads, its an easy problem to solve.

Do you enjoy looking at pictures of nearly nude boys?

Maybe there should be something at the top of every thread that says in bold print:

Keep your mouth shut about where writers live, who they know, and anything else that can help a case against them.

Just a thought.

That reminds me...

I was travelling this past month to this city in this country and I saw some graffiti by this guy (or maybe it's a girl) who writes this word and it really blew me away. You know the one I'm talking about. The place with the wall and the thing with the thing on it. It was really cool. The person wrote for this crew that uses an acronym that is three letters, one of which is a vowel.
