fatbastard
Are you talking about the ones that work with a DVD that you can put straight into a dvd player? if so dont waste your money, this technology is like the lazer disc meaning it will quickly be obsolete. the lazer disc was replaced with a smaller dvd, these camcorders will be replaced by an even smaller camcorder that works with a specalised USB stick making it simpler, faster, smaller and able to hold more data. Guest
what I want: Hey teaseola... I work with digital video all day long and here are my tips: - Got to be DV or miniDV. Analog is for fools. - Got to have a minimum 3 CCD (that's what captures the video) - Go for the highest optical zoom you can get.... forget digital zoom - it's garbage. - make damn sure you can adjust the audio input levels, othervise things can get way too loud and digital audio will choke. You're just planning on shooting your own stuff right? - Get a light on the camera. The quality of the light might stink, but it's much better than missing out on something. - Look at spending around $600 - $800 for something simple yet nice. - oh... make sure the eyepiece is good. Using an LCD screen will kill your bateries quick fast.

T=E=A=S=E
yea, i dont really need one yet, but like everything in life, the extra's are nice to have if you can afford it. ill be getting one so that i can make home movies ;) obviously, record trips and stuff, make little movies for fun, family gathers etc... so, that being said, what about the zoom on these bad boys? is it the same as the digital cameras? the more the better? what are some of the other really nice features to look for? Guest
with the lense it's like this.... optical is like a real zoom and digital just uses the computer to blow up the image. Optical is good... digital is shit. let me shearch for what I would buy if I were you. the Canon ZR80 is a fair prize with great features. and small. ^ it's like $500 the Canon Elura 65 is more money but a better buy. it's pretty hot. The Canon Optura is really small but packed with goods. ^ that would be my pick

porque
...i have two digital camcorders...a sony digital 8mm...and a samsung dvc...i haven't used my digital 8 since i got the dvc...they're definately the way to go...however, the digital 8 has a different look to it than dvc, for some shots it does look better...it's nice to have both to use but definately not essential...i would recomend the cannon that key posted for a good all purpose home camera, they are really good...and probably the best you can buy for around $500... ...other things to look for besides zoom would be lux rating, aperature and frames per second capabilities...also look at how much control you can assert over the camera while filming, for example, with my dvc i can select frame rates and aperature settings in dividually or as a particular set that the camera then uses to it's best judgement automatically...if this doesn't make sense i can explain more... ...and key...i hate you for getting to use those dope ass cameras everyday... Guest
haha... dont hate. It's all for work. but one thing... I have a few cameraman friends who are more than willing to shoot for me just to use the new gear. I let them shoot.... I just try to direct.
