I currently am holding onto my friends olympus D-380 its only 2.0 megapixels but it works great....i also know someone with that sony and it works great...i tend to think sony is more durable and that from experience there warrantys and repairs are superb if that really is a word.

In that pricerange i'd say go for the olympus...the best thing about sony's is the carl zeiss lens and low end models dont carry it.

I just picked up an olympus c-5000 for about $350. Its got 5 megapixels, and has threading, so you can use filters, or wide-angle/telephoto adapters. I'd stick with the brand that has been dealing with photo optics since the beginning.

Night Photos = tri pod

Olympus

Thats a theory, but sony's tech status makes their high-end models really worthwhile,,especially when they carry the lens of THE lens brand since the beggining.

wait..if the sony has manual mode and the olympus is fully automatic go for the sony with no second thought

If he were spending 1000+ on a high end digital slr I would be saying something different. But this sony is a low end camera without the carl zeiss lens.

If I'm not mistaken the Olympus is not an automatic-only camera. And it has a metal, weather resistant casing, so you can get it a little wet and a remote
