Intangible
I currently am holding onto my friends olympus D-380 its only 2.0 megapixels but it works great....i also know someone with that sony and it works great...i tend to think sony is more durable and that from experience there warrantys and repairs are superb if that really is a word. Guest imported_Tesseract
In that pricerange i'd say go for the olympus...the best thing about sony's is the carl zeiss lens and low end models dont carry it.
Poop Man Bob
Read some reviews on cnet.com: 96 user reviews for the Sony. 66 user reviews for the Olympus. cnet rated the Sony higher. I'd look all through the editors' reviews in addition to user comments.
Devilush
olympus.
anonymity1
I just picked up an olympus c-5000 for about $350. Its got 5 megapixels, and has threading, so you can use filters, or wide-angle/telephoto adapters. I'd stick with the brand that has been dealing with photo optics since the beginning. Night Photos = tri pod Olympus
Guest imported_Tesseract
Thats a theory, but sony's tech status makes their high-end models really worthwhile,,especially when they carry the lens of THE lens brand since the beggining.
Vlad
tnx for the comments! i would get the Olympus, but I really want a cam with more options (shutter speed etc.) like the sony... :D
Guest imported_Tesseract
wait..if the sony has manual mode and the olympus is fully automatic go for the sony with no second thought
Guest
canon ? I only say that because I LOVE my S230. The new 4mpx version of the elph is super hot too!
anonymity1
If he were spending 1000+ on a high end digital slr I would be saying something different. But this sony is a low end camera without the carl zeiss lens. If I'm not mistaken the Olympus is not an automatic-only camera. And it has a metal, weather resistant casing, so you can get it a little wet and a remote

Poop Man Bob
How much are you looking to spend? And are you only limiting yourself to those two cameras? I would look around cnet.com a lot before you make a decision. I know I keep pushing it, but the site fucking rules.
Fr8Junkie
Canon go for a canon. i have had real good results from both of my canons. takes great pics and has a lot of features. you should consider getting a SD10 or an A80. http://img1.photobucket.com/albums/1003/jasperllbk/canonSD10.jpg'> http://img1.photobucket.com/albums/1003/jasperllbk/canonA80.jpg'>
