Design the winning symbol and win $25,000. How It Works Submit your design - Design a symbol that indicates that a product is made from bioplastics. Spread the word - Tell your friends, family and colleagues. Public voting will determine the top 50 finalists. Win $25,000 - Our panel of judges will select the winning symbol from the top 50 finalists. The winner will receive $25,000. The Story In 1970, a young man by the name of Gary Anderson entered a design contest that sought to find a symbol to identify products that were made from recycled materials and/or were recyclable. The contest represented the beginning of environmental consciousness, what we call the “green movement” today. The competition was also to honor the first “Earth Day” celebration, which took place that same year. Gary won $2500, and the icon [the recycling symbol] was born. Today, the recycling symbol is one of the most recognized symbols in the world. Now, 41 years later, a new search has begun for the pioneer of the world’s next environmentally conscious, innovative symbol. This Earth Day, Cereplast, the leader in bioplastics, is seeking a revolutionary logo—one that represents the evolution of bioplastics and the important role bioplastics play in safeguarding our environment. Because today, we live in a world where plastics that are made from the earth, sustain the earth. But we need your help. Together with our distinguished judges Gary Anderson and top designer Karim Rashid, Cereplast will award $25,000 to the creator of this new symbol. Forty-one years ago, it all started with an idea.
