I was flipping thro some channels today and the history channel was showing a special on "Death Devices" I cought it at the end so i decided to look it up on the web to see what they were talking about and what i found was no joke..

    Death Devices
The hangman, gas chamber, firing squad, and electric chair are just a few of the ways in which societies have rid themselves of those who committed capital crimes. And throughout history, a select few have developed the devices that have carried out the mandate of the people. This is the dark story of those inventors and the macabre history of execution mechanics--from the first "stone" of antiquity to today's sterile injection chambers--with a peek at the future of death technology.

Throughout the centuries, mankind has devised many ways to mete out the ultimate punishment. Some, like hanging and firing squads, were readily available. But there has long been a compulsion to invent machines to do this job.

From the "first stone" of antiquity to the sterile injection chambers of today, DEATH DEVICES is a grisly and gripping look at man's inventiveness applied to extinguishing human lives. The bizarre tale of the guillotine is a particularly ironic example--one of its "designers" was also one of its best-known victims! We'll also examine the veritable parade of these machines that have played a role in the American justice system, with electric chairs, gas chambers and lethal injections all gaining prominence at various times.

From the dungeons of the Inquisition to the death camps of the Nazi war machine, MODERN MARVELSTM chronicles the trial-and-error legacy of death technology and introduces its strange cast of characters.
