rubbish heap
i don't care, really. yeah, the companies are trying to make money off graff, and yeah they'd probably be pissed if you hit up their headquarters. if ignorant suburban "hip-hop" kids want to look at fake graff with their jnco jeans and comedy central commercials, so be it. they don't know the definition of real graff, what the life style is about or what drives people to do it, and unless they do it themselves for more than a couple months or surround themselves with friends that are really into it, they probably never will understand. thats all apart of the game: outsiders don't understand you, ridicule you, get mad at what you're doing, call you a loser and keep their narrow minded views without really opening up. they want to label us, they want to stereotype us and they want to stop seeing our shit - and we use that against them. a lot of legit graff artists like haze are responsible for some of this commercializing you speak of. graff leads to fame, and money's harder to come from it, but some people find their ways to make a living with their lifestyle. Tre$Loco$
the same fucks that discourage it, are the ones who will capitalize off it. It was inevitable, graff just got too damn "cool" to be ignored. This is how it goes my daimy.
adept
Honestly, in my view, there are different reasons it doesn' matter 1. Sure they are "stealing" our shit, but whose gonna stop them, graff is illegal. Graffiti on private property should remain illegal, we have to keep private property rights, sure I think the laws are ridiculously too strict, but that's an entirely different issue 2. The more people see graff, the more they may "understand," and the perhaps writers will be criticized less frequently. 3. This goes along with number 3; Graff is at least portrayed positively 4. At least it isn't some god-awful shit and at least the WB or some other shit channel isn't doing it.
rinse
no worries... it wont be long and the trend will be over. graff will go back underground just as breakin' did after its boom in the 80's. the reason graff is so comercialised now is that many graphic design students are in love with the art form and when they become designers and enter the job market they bring their graff skills or lack there of, with them. next thing you know graff is being used to sell products and images everywhere. ERIZENO
it's happened before, it will happen again. its cyclical man. it has come and gone as a trend about every 10 years. last big pop of it was early 90's the bubble pops when a buch of new kids heat up spots and get caught for being dumb. it will mellow out again for a bit, then all of a sudden boom it will be back. nothing new in the pop culture. casekonly
just think, one of "us" is probably getting payed to do that shit...and he or she is laughing all the way to the bank. i don't mind it at all. we can just exploit them for exploiting our culture. in a small way, it's like getting back at them for criticizing us. krowone
commercialized graff the reason why you see alot of graff in the media is because hip hop is so main stream right now, and graff is associated with it. just like breakin. as long as hip hop is exploited anything affiliated with it will be targeted as well. the good thing about it is that maybe some writers will be able to make some loot from it . time to capitolize!!!!! mene 1 crow city yall

seeking
jnco has been using graffiti in its logo's since 92. but you wouldnt know that, cause you werent around then. graffiti doesnt need you to go on the internet and 'save' it. you want to make a difference? shut up and paint. closed. bump one of the other 80 topics about this if you feel its that important.
