T. AUGUSTINE, Fla.

A man showing off his OnStar system in his Cadillac Escalade found out the system worked too well. Ralph A. Gomez, 38, was being held Wednesday on $15,000 bond on charges of possession of an illegal narcotic within 1,000 feet of a church and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Gomez was showing off his OnStar system to his girlfriend, but the volume was set so low that he couldn't hear the OnStar operator. OnStar comes on many new General Motors vehicles and allows a customer to contact an OnStar representative in an emergency or to get directions.

If there is no response, OnStar contacts police.

That's what happened with Gomez on Friday night, Tom Clements, a spokesman for the St. Augustine Police Department, said Wednesday.

When police located Gomez' car, they determined there was no problem. But Clements said cocaine was clearly visible on the car's center console.

In addition to seizing $1,900 in the case, the Cadillac equipped with the OnStar system was also seized, Clements said.

There was no information available from Clements or the jail on whether Gomez has a lawyer.

Another awesome case of separation of church and state.

Actually I kind of understand this one though. A church is supposed to be a moral institution. It's on par with a school because there are lots of kids around. So it's somewhat logical that you can't have drugs near a church for the same reasons that you can't have them near a school. Also, you "learn" things both places. And drugs are not in the syllabus or holy agenda. The law was clearly designed to keep nefarious characters from doing their business around children. Not only because the drugs themselves are bad, but because the people selling/possessing them sometimes pose a threat just by their presence. In other words, bad things tend to happen around such people. I know from experience.

What I wouldn't understand though is if the same rule is not applied to a synagogue, mosque, church of scientology, etc...

And this part, this part is key.

You shouldn't have drugs anyway.

Legally speeking.

All of this is said in the context of this thread.

The drugs implied.

My demeanor.

Everything.

In other words, I'm not like this, but the thread got me thinking.

Getting lost can be half the fun on roadtrips, and I've definitely stumbled on some great spots to eat/ skate/ paint with the accidental right. On the other hand, I've had rental cars with GPS, and that shit can be pretty handy when you're in a strange place and just want to get where you're going.

But what's a key map?

Oh shit, I just discovered that we only have them in Texas.

They are ultra useful.

I have a bunch because I work for a property appraisal company now.

Baisically, a key map is a map that is divided up into a grid.

Each grid has a number.

That's a page number.

Look at the page and it's further divided up by letters.

PageLetter --- 356P ---- is how the coordinates work.

So it's a big map divided up into a bunch of small detailed maps put into an orange binder.

An orange binder of incomparable durability.

The rings don't get messed up or anything.

I've actually never seen anything as durable.

Save for a glock.

that's ridiculous...then how come there's no laws for possesing drugs around a playground...or an ice skating rink or a mall..a basketball court...tons of kids around there too...it's bullshit. im pretty sure that law gets forgotten when it's around a mosque or a synagogue

Oh, a key map. I get it.

Anyway, this thread just reminded me of a funny story. About 1998 or so, I went to take flicks at a very popular trackside legal wall outside of Boston. At the time, Boston had a notoriously corrupt and fiscally irresponsible vandal squad (you may have heard the stories), and on this particular day, they were employing six undercover officers, a paddy wagon, three squad cars, and a fucking helicopter to catch people looking at (not painting on) the legal wall. Seriously.

Their angle was that it is considered trespassing to walk within fifty feet of the train tracks, and the wall was only about sixty feet away. So they had the helicopter flying over, and when someone would step back more than 10 feet to get a picture, all these cops dressed like wiggers would pop out and arrest you. Then they could search you, tow, impound, and search your car, and hopefully find something to incriminate you (when that failed, they claimed to have found a 3 foot bong in my friend's back seat). Anyway, point of the story is I ended up in a paddy wagon with my rollie, 3 teenage couples who were simply out for "romantic" trackside walks, and an obnoxious, coked-up, middle aged white trash couple who got arrested because when the cops pulled the paddy wagon into the train station parking lot to hide it, they happened to park next to them, and the couple happened to be in the process of cutting up an eight ball. I got a kick out of imagining the look on their faces when the cops got out of the paddy and knocked on their window.

And that's your tax dollars at work.

last summer when that shamefull "ima a hustler , ima ima hustler homey" song was being played in every bar/lounge/club in the world. theyre was this group of spanish kids who used to kick it inside a lounge by my house, and when that song would come on they would all pull out theyre "cocaine stash" and wave it around in the air singing along to the song, to make a long story short the bouncer was off duty nypd and they all got arrested, it was pretty funny
