OptimusPrime
On Labor Day weekend 2002, Cleveland Public Art launched the first ever “City Xpressionz” aerosol art festival and competition, in partnership with Mandala Entertainment. CPA hosted 5 visiting artists from Los Angeles, Toronto, New York and Florida, including renowned writers, Bask and Sano. Open to all ages and abilities, over 40 people participated in painting canvases, along with DJ’s, Bboys and girls, and hundreds of spectators. An educational Forum was held at the Rock Hall on the second day of the festival, with the visiting writers answering questions about graffiti as an art form, and the showing of two graffiti related films. City Xpressionz 2003 promises to be even better, and Bigger! A 14’ x 48’ canvas production piece will be painted by visiting artists selected by a jury, and later hung on a Cleveland billboard. Artists will paint in Market Square Park amidst vendors, break dancers, DJ’s and live bands. A special demo and piece by Bask will part of an educational component. After parties and an art exhibition and informal black book show will be held at 1300 Gallery. i dont know about you suckers but i'm pretty damn hype. :D
