On August 5th 2001, artist richard ankrom installed an interstate 5 shield and North directional sign on the 110 Northbound indicating the I-5 North transition. For two years, the artist planned, documented and prepared for this project, a piece that has been seen by more than 150,000 motorists per day on the 110 Northbound freeway, near 3rd Street in Downtown Los Angeles. The artist disguised himself as a state employee taking a direct approach to correcting the lack of an adequate guide sign on the California freeway system.
