KaBar
OK. I'll Play. What's your opinion on the fundamental divergence of theory between traditional anarchists like Kropotkin or Bakunin, and more modern anarchist theorists like Malatesta? Does anarcho-syndicalism still have a valid role in the modern post-industrial world? Do you believe that modern anarchists have the self discipline and intellectual fortitude necessary to make genuine headfway against the pervasive modern mileau of nationalism and statism? Or not? Guest im not witty
idiots like you are half the reason no one will ever take a conversation about anarchism seriously. and i realize Kabar had to come out and fuck with this kid, but in my opinion theres no room for any of that jargon theory bullshit in my life. i prefer to put anarchism to use on much smaller levels. L Like for example, when all of you and your freinds get together and have dinner, and everyone contributes something, with responsibilities divided up voluntarily and everyone has a good time. thats anarchism in practice. Acting without instruction is anarchist. setting shit on fire/throwing bombs is not necessarily anarchist, although thats proabably what you think makes you so cool, though i doubt you do any of that either. KaBar
Anarchist Enclaves Around the World To my (somewhat incomplete) knowledge of anarchist history, there have been about three or four attempts at large-scale (national) attempts to establish a predominantly anarchist area. The Paris Commune was one. Ultimately destroyed, of course. The anarchist rebellion against the Communists in Ukraine in the post WWI-1924 era, led by Nestor Mahkno was another. It was crushed, after five years of bitter warfare, by Leon Trotsky, leader of the Red Army. This is why anarchists hate Trotskyists, and attempt to kick their asses at every opportunity. The Socialist Worker's Party got to where they hated to see a black flag at a demo, because they hadn't healed up from the last political discussion we'd had with them. The Spanish Civil War, of course, had a few large areas that were predominantly anarchist. Ultimately, the anarchists were sold out by the Communists, denied supplies, denied ammunition, and committed to battles against the fascists without adequate support and often with faulty (Communist) military intelligence. The Spanish Civil War is notable because of the domination of the Spanish republican movement by the anarchist union, FAI-CNT (Iberian Anarchist Federation-National Confederation of Labor), the development of the libertarian movement, their opposition to the reformist UGT (socialist) and their adamant insistance on prosecuting the revolution RIGHT NOW, and not waiting until the war against the Falangists was won. The Communists, of course, argued that the war against the fascists had to be won, and then revolutionary changes could be made. After, of course, about twenty million anarchists were deader than a canned mackeral. The last one I recall is the Italian anarchist city, Carrera. It has been 99% anarchist since the 1860's when Bakunin came there and organized the marble quarry workers. A long time before it's twisting mountain highway was made famous as the name of a German sports car. They are anarchists in Carrera, even today. The quarry is operated as a collective. KaBar
If You Want First-Rate Anarchist Theory & History Look up the Kate Sharpley Library online. It was started by my old pals from Black Flag, in London. Stuart Christie was instrumental, but he didn't do it all, not by far. I am persona non grata with them these days, of course, but back in the day we enjoyed a warm correspondence. Oh, well. Everything changes. I still admire their writing and their elan' , although I'm pretty sure my affection isn't reciprocated. "I ain't an anarchist any more." (Sounds sort of like the title to a mid-70's Sex Pistols tune, LOL.)

KaBar
I still have a soft spot for anarchists, and especially anarchist women. I had a motorcycle wreck in San Francisco the day before we were supposed to leave to move, and it completely screwed up our plans. However, our good anarchist friends at the Urban Stonehenge Collective rushed to our aid, and while I was laying on a mattress on the floor, completely zonked out on Percodan with a broken shoulder, they all showed up at our house and helped us pack up the whole place and load it into a truck. One anarchist woman entertained the children, while everybody else worked. We gave the Collective all of our stored food, about 500 pounds of beans and rice and dried stuff. For the most part, real anarchists are good folks. The wannabe's get kind of tiresome, with all the weird, torn clothes and "FUCK THE WORLD" t-shirts, and pierced eyebrows and whatnot. Genuine anarchists are more about building an alternative, sustainable world and less about rebellion and trying to freak out the citizens. A world where everybody panhandles or shoplifts ain't going to work. Real anarchists are more draft horses, and less draft resistance. Real anarchists are more organic farming and less organic chemistry. Real anarchists don't marry. They also don't cheat. And they care for their children just about better than any parents I know. Real anarchists may smoke pot, but they do not use needle drugs or anything that is addictive. Real anarchists settle disputes in meetings of consensus, without voting. Real anarchists work every day, all day, but not for a profit. Real anarchists think cars are an unpleasant abberation soon to be abandoned. They prefer bicycles, or horses. Or train hopping. Real anarchists are more about organization and less about "leadership." Real anarchists just practice libertarian relationships and hold their noses when someone says "feminism." Or for that matter, "communism." Real anarchists are well-armed, and polite and kind. Real anarchists say "We keep our treasury in the pockets of the working class." I like them, but I'm not an anarchist any more.
S@T@N
Kabar is a smart kid. Oh, and I didn't take the poll. suburbian bum
IF you had anarchism it would only work, if all humans were totally good people. Unfortuniatly. This is impossible.
