Ok, this may sound ridiculously retarded, by i thought of this after going to bed glancing at the inventions thread:

Ok now im not sure if bandwith/server costs are still a problem with the recent meltdown erasing a whole lot of threads, creating a lot of recent space but if this was still a problem i thought of a way that this site could make money on other things besides donations.

firstly for the staff at 4THW to create a hand made exclusively limited edition pair of "12ozprophet dunks" i can see them now, the two tones of grey that the site uses (on the inner and outer layer) as well as the famous oiler 12ozprophet/the writers forum handstyle on the back corner, perhaps they could come in a series with a the famous 12oz cast each designing a shoe. all numbered.

Im telling you, this would generate a lot of revenue, the shoes would cost around $50/produce (plain white dunks before they are decorated)to buy and i can guarentee you that people will pay a minimum of $300 for them. i ve even thought about the legal implications and it wouldnt be a problem, people sell LV and gucci dunks that arent official all the time.

secondly to make "yardsale thread" where people sell stuff they think others will buy (stickers, sketches graff stuff books etc) with all proceeds going to the site. like i said...im not sure if this is still a problem

so, am i being a complete moron with hopes higher than the sky, or do you think these ideas have potential?

i meant to say, guarentee that people in general would pay...not meaning you guys.

and now that i think about it, whats the harm in making a single prototype pair? seeing what they go for in an auction and releasing a series if they sell well.
total loss, the cost of the show and paint, $55 with the potential to make a lot of money. i would even be prepared to provide the all white canvas dunks.

nike dunk. tennis shoes. check on ebay.
it's a good idea, but $300 is not very much money, and there are only so many buyers for custom 12oz dunks. the name 12oz prophet holds a whole lot of weight in the graff community, but outside of that, it's nothing. besides, that's actually a lot of effort to put into something just to stay afloat. and our costs of opperating would require us to sell a few pairs a month.
it's a good idea, and one that has been looked into (not customizing ourselves, but working with nike on an official 12oz dunk) but for the time being, it's a little beyond our capabilities (or more to the point, nike's interest)
as far as having a yard sale forum to generate profits, again, that's a hell of alot of work. also, this isn't a grass roots, morning breakfast program for kids. selling off random stickers and sketches is cool, but we can't nickle and dime our way to self sufficency. the reason 12oz has always stayed a head of the game (even with a 5 year hiatus) is by thinking well into the future. these are good ideas, but not really 12oz ideas, if you know what i mean.
i do think kid's on here should trade alot more stuff with one another though. people that have proven to have quality design skills and ability should set up trades for bigger items. mr. abc trades mams a pair of custom dunks for a big quality canvas, or a custom painted jean jacket or something, ya know. fuck cd's and post cards, think bigger.

yeah i see what you mean,

but im talking a lot simpler than your thinking. i.e by yard sale i mean open a thread, where people just take images of what they want to sell and post them, and people can contact them if they are interested, it would work on trust.

the dunks, would involve getting special leather spray paint, outter layers dark grey inner layers dark grey, getting the famous oiler handstyle done in paint pen, a few other bits and peices and bam! the prototype is made.

legally, you wouldnt even have to talk to nike, because accprding to international consumer law once an individual purchases an item, it is there right to do what they want with the item and sell it (within guidelines) how they want, i mean im sure if nike wanted to be assholes they could find a precident to have them be discontinued for sale, but considering they havent done anything to sites that make louisvuitton dunks, they wouldnt bother...

and your right it isnt a lot of money, but with the donations and ideas combined, i think it would bring in a considerable chunk to play an effective role.
