BoB Hope ONER Posted August 1, 2001 Share Posted August 1, 2001 better late then never. well finally got around to picking it up. ....well worth the wait.. better then my old vhs copy.. my friend lost...damn him. so this replacement was actually cheaper. then my ..argh original first edition japanese with english subtitled version.. its also letterbox. nice.. just thought id put a word in about it plus. unbreakable.. nice lil double disc jawn. ..la femme nikita.. and..hmm bladerunner.. I'd never seen it before and he has, so almost the whole movie was spent with me saying: "is that Akira?" Him: No you'll see." Me: "Is THAT one Akira?" Him:"no" Me: "How about that one?" Him: "Just shush, you'll see soon enough." Me: "did Tetsuo change INTO Akira?" Him "just be quiet and watch the movie" So I finally shut up and watched it and I really enjoyed it. I did find it mildly confusing in parts, but it generally made sense. BoB Hope ONER Posted August 1, 2001 Author Share Posted August 1, 2001 yeah ive read some of them ..i understand the idea.. im just thinking in terms of .. how theyre speaking of japan... what cultural ideals. it conveys.. what gets misconstrued do to cultural incongruences and nuances.. i mean.. there are things in japanese culture that just dont exist in american culture.. in this movie theres alot of things.. in terms of mythos that contradict or just plain.. arent the normal.. asian.. archetypes.. its just.. an incredible movie.
