Act now to block Bush overtime cuts

Discussion started by ClueTwo - Sep 18, 2003

    WashTech News

WASHINGTON - You may have heard the news. An opportunity to block President Bush's drive to take away overtime pay from millions of Americans has just come up. Before the end of July we need to tell Congress to block the Bush overtime cuts. We lost the vote in the U.S. House on this last Thursday but we have another chance when the Senate considers an effort to block Bush's overtime cuts. More than 8 million people are slated to LOSE THEIR OVERTIME PAY in the coming months.

Here is what is needed in the next couple of weeks:

First, please click on the link below to SEND AN E-MAIL to your senators and representative with a copy to President Bush. Tell them to act to repeal the Bush overtime take away.

Second, please E-MAIL YOUR FRIENDS, FAMILY AND CO-WORKERS and ask them to get involved and help stop these pay cuts. Click on this link to send them a message.

We know these overtime cuts will impact millions of people. Here are some of the problems with the Bush overtime changes:

People with training or education that helps them do their jobs, including military training, skills training, medical training, law enforcement training, fire rescue
training and more, could be automatically excluded from getting overtime.

The Bush administration will change the rules that determine who is and isn't an overtime -- ineligible supervisor and cut overtime for millions. People who make $22,100 could more easily be classified by the Department of Labor as executives and lose all of their overtime pay. An executive who makes $22,100?

Not a single public hearing on this issue has been held or even scheduled by the Bush administration. The public has been able to comment only through our outreach and your activism.

****This shit is really going to piss me off...I am nothing without overtime pay. That shit is 18.00 an hour and I'm grossing about 10 hours per week in overtime. Gotta have it or else....

but your acticle snippet is outdated, the senate blocked the bill last week and now i believe the differences between the house and sentate must be worked out by conference committe.

hmm.. the only reason i could think of for them to do this is to get companies to hire more people, instead of paying the same ones more money

that sounds good to me. holler at your fellow american

alot of middle class citizens depend on working that overtive to support their familes. this would also make the people who work that overtime still work it but not get paid for it..... salary style. with no protection form the gov.

well this will help companies who have assholes who insist on working off hours and overtime to get more money. if you want more money ask for a fucking raise.

Re: Re: Act now to block Bush overtime cuts

Some police officers can make up to 40 dollars an hour working security at a school of 8th graders. Tell me that's not a majority of their wages.?

And Nomadawhat, the whole bill is crap, it should be removed in full...

^^ raising the salary level for guaranteed OT from $8,000 something to $2o,000 something is crap?? that means people who make under 20k not just the ones who make under 8k are guaranteed OT...

go Tom Harkin, the good man in Iowa. . .so we want the bill passed, but with the Harkin amendment, and the house is being difficult, and Bush says he won't sign it with the amendment?

good job also to the dissenting republican voters. and nomadawhat for posting the more current link.
