    Read this crap.

    The topic in the forum above is about a virus similar to MyDoom that has
    been spreading through Soulseek. However, that's not my main concern.
    Soulseek has now been posted on both the Norton and McAfee sites, which
    means it's gaining a little more publicity now. I don't like that. I think
    you're okay if you only share with us 12ozers, but I'd be wary if you've
    chosen to share with all of SLSK.

    Just a tip.

    "First off, just to clear something up: this is not a 'variant of MyDoom', per se... it is a completely different script. It attempts to 'attack' MyDoom variants A and B, and uses some of the ports that MyDoom does, apparently in it's attempt to further propogate itself onto machines infected with MyDoom. It does NOT carry a payload to perform a DoS attack, nor does it attempt to massmail itself. There are no inherent similarities to MyDoom whatsoever. Thus, users need not be worried about having a version of MyDoom. However, that is not to say that the worm is any less damaging. It attempts to terminate antivirus and firewall software, and opens a IRC backdoor... neither of which is very appealing.
    Secondly, you can NOT contract this virus by simply downloading mp3, video, etc... files. It will spread as an executable file, so that it can be run. The filenames listed above are the current names the worm will attempt to spread as. So far, I have not had any matches for any of these files (however, I would like to take a look at the file if it can be found).
    Thirdly, as listed already, the program file smss.exe is a system file which is perfectly normal. Do not confuse this file with the sms.exe name that the worm will take on."

    the list of files he speaks of..

    ""# Locates the shared folder used by the Soulseek file-sharing program and copies itself to this locaton. It uses one of the following filenames:
    * Windows2003Keygen.exe
    * mIRC.v6.12.Keygen.exe
    * Norton.All.Products.KeyMkr.exe
    * F-Secure.Antivirus.Keymkr.exe
    * FlashFXP.v2.1.FINAL.Crack.exe
    * SecureCRTPatch.exe
    * TweakXPProKeyGenerator.exe
    * FRUITYLOOPS.SPYWIRE.FIX.EXE
    * ALL.SERIALS.COLLECTION.2003-2004.EXE
    * WinRescue.XP.v1.08.14.exe
    * GoldenHawk.CDRWin.v3.9E.Incl.Keygen.exe
    * BlindWrite.Suite.v4.5.2.Serial.Generator.exe
    * Serv-U.allversions.keymaker.exe
    * WinZip.exe
    * WinRar.exe
    * WinAmp5.Crack.exe
    "
    It spreads via these files which you can only laugh if someone downloads them via soulseek."

    Like I said, you should be just fine if you stick to sharing with 12ozers on
    SLSK. This is NOT me condoning leechers, but if you'd like to play it safe,
    make people PM you for permission before they download from you.
    That way, you can try to catch a whiff of RIAA asshole before you go
    handing out your pr0nz.
