El Mamerro
Since my life sucks so hard (as evidenced by my last thread), I've decided to shun it and live virtually instead. I am in the process of buying an intravenous feed machine. Me and SpyD tried this shit out last night and it is fucking bizarre to say the least. However, we both agreed that the possibilities are pretty endless and that there's some serious shit going on here. Unlike other online multiplayer worlds, in here you can pretty much create anything you want, own the rights to your creation, and then give away/trade/sell as you please. The result is a very strange virtual economy that is pretty threaded into the real world economy. The game's currency, Linden dollars, is currently interchangeable with real US dollars at the LindeX Currency Exchange. There's people making serious loot here. Check out this article on BusinessWeek for an idea of how it's happening. I seriously believe that in the future, as computer interfaces and power increase, more and more of our lives will become virtual, and that a moment will come where real and virtual will be pretty much indistinguishable from one another. This is the first serious step I've seen in that direction. They've had virtual concerts, virtual conferences, even virtual cinema openings. You could sit down in a theater and watch X-Men 3 on a virtual screen. Some companies have actually built offices where they sit down in a virtual table and discuss business, negotiate, and generally get real-world shit done. This was a pretty silly idea a few years ago, but it's definitely fucking serious today. I'm hopping on it, fuck everyone who thinks it's gay. Speaking of gay, we found an empty porn shop that had some absolutely hysterical devices for sale, including a fisting machine. Last night I hit up a reggaeton party full of strippers and latin people and danced up a fucking storm. You could vote on the best dancer, and at the end of the party the winners would receive rewards (mostly in the form of Linden dollars, which as I mentioned before, you can exchange for real money). You could see the DJ avatar spinning, and hear her comments over the speakers. At first I thought it was pre-recorded stuff until she started calling out names and commenting on people's dancing. That was one of the many points where my hairs stood on end and I had to step back just to think about the implications. Somebody was actually hosting a virtual party in real time, watching us dance, spinning dope music, letting everyone have fun. It was insane. Anyways, I think more people on 12oz should join so we can go fuck around this massive virtual world, meet people, and start some shit. Who knows, maybe we can generate some revenue for 12oz if we make some dope virtual merchandise. We got some talented people here, I'm sure we can come up with quality shit. Join my avatar, Mamski McNally, and let's take 12oz into the virtual reality universe. ----------• Second Life

El Mamerro
There's toooooons of shit to do. I'm sure there's plenty of chess tournaments in there. Literally, pretty much anything that can be coded can run inside the game, and the makers exhort you to populate the world with your creations. I gotta sit down and learn the scripting language a bit, but I have some ideas of what kind of shit to do. My first project will be the ability to take a dump, so you can go anywhere you want, crouch, and lay down a steamy shit. Some club owner is being pissy, or someone's telling you to get off their land, and you have the choice to just take a fucking crap on their property. El Mamerro
can you bomb? Quote from Wikipedia: "Lack of zoning: With minor exceptions, Linden Lab has not placed any zoning or content restrictions on what land owners can place on their real estate. This has resulted in a wide variety of architectural variations, frequently with mixed success. Part of the problem concerns the amount of activity/resources from objects on business property causing lag for neighbors of that area that use it more of a personal manner. E.g. a business property could use objects that take up a lot of loading/rendering time or communicating with the servers, thus causing lag for others that may not be on the same property but nearby due to the nature of Second Life and everything in a certain distance must cache. The lack of zoning is also a prime target for graffiti, deliberately obstructive and/or offensive content with the intent of defacing the local view. Such proneness to vandalism has been leveraged on occasion as a low-level form of extortion, destroying the quality of the local view in an attempt to force neighbors to buy the offending parcel of land at greatly overpriced value." thinksucks
but if you steal money in this game thing, its like stealing money in real life, so you could get arrested couldnt you?
El Mamerro
I'm not sure how you'd go around stealing money.
thinksucks
oh well i imagined if you could crap on people and tag peoples buildings you could probably rob them too.
El Mamerro
Yeah, but that's physical interaction with objects. To rob someone you'd have to be able to get into their account somehow, and obviously there's safeguards against that kind of thing. People don't carry a 3D virtual wallet you can grab.
