  6. damn,, i forgot how f'ucking good this album actually is: the empyrean. j-fru. after the ending. heaven. dark light.
  7. im really sorry about this.. i didnt kno him irl, but he pm'd me a couple times... he was tough guy, but had a good heart & really loved detroit & graffiti, u could tell... be at peace tom.
  8. longish. heyy, cool. glad u likes :-).. & thanks to you for initiating an open discussion. but i cant really take any credit (re-postin is a fairly simple process ;) the thanks goes undoubtedly to the writers who created & cultivated this scene (and with very little resources, and those from the city & who came from a2 & lansing, other cites/states, etc. as well)... and continue to do so.. and so, if i can contribute to the discussion, i dont really know if you can say detroit had/has (yet? in its young duration) a "style" per se, but it definitely has a kind of persuasion & distinct yet nuanced voice, so to speak,, if that makes any sense… i think the kids who laid down the groundwork for the current scene/ethos (those who've been documented & recalled…as someone pointed out, it'd be hard to ever fully know what was written previous to people carin & flickin, & so much in the city/history gets lost to time immemorial…) took creative risks in detroit that perhaps they might've not taken in other more established cities/scenes or places w/a more codified style approach… & some of their work structurally (especially from the very organic to proto-technical attributes, if you will) ive really not seen in letters from too many other places… especially the direction in which they pushed it & the variety that existed concurrently...imho.. to me even simple throwie or hollow became a territory they exploited, in interesting ways, aside from the even more in depth stuff goin on in market yard, etc… but, idk, i only kno only some amts about other cities' crews/writers/style evolution so perhaps im not really a good person to comment on this aspect, (and for better or worse, mostly mediated by the internet i suppose like most in my generation), etc. but where ive been internationally writers who knew of detroit's graffiti (many via the internet) usually commented on its solid straight letter structure... & in my perspective, detroit was/has always been a place where writers/artists/etc. could feel confident to explore & experiment, i think that's the kinda of thing that makes it somewhat unique and is part and parcel of the magic that existed in its very inception... and in its own way, is sort of a stylistic component, if you will.. i guess the cool part is that style itself is always operating in a process of continual development, such as anywhere.. so, just some thoughts, sorry for the chatter. take care.
  9. hey, so here are some re-posts of flicks gnarbucket was cool enough to share/scan in a few yrs ago.. thought it'd be cool to re-post as they are some of the nicest flicks, imo.. some of mh & many other detroit/visiting crews/writers' work that i, unfortunately, perhaps others, never got to see (for the most part) fresh &/or in situ. idk, i think theyre pretty inspiring-- especially structurally & technically... even for people who work in other mediums.. so, anyways, many thanks to these writers & gnarbucket for documenting & sharing,, enjoy.
