Figured we could use this space for any music discussion that you deem important for your soul. Recommendations are always cool too. So what are you guys listening to these days? I am currently stuck in the 80s and 90s this week. The up beat fast paced hype has helped me stay in a flow recently. Something about songs from my adolescence that I didn't understand then but liked the song. I find it to be a full circle. Often finding myself wondering why it took me so long to actually listen to what some songs were about. A good example of this for me would be 99 Luftballoons by Nena. Its pretty crazy how different the UK version is from the German original…

I'm a headphone freak. well... not that kind of freak... so how about them cans? ^ these are some great sonys but NOT for wearing around. I dont care how bad you want to look like a dj, with your record bag and your stanton t-shirt, please dont wear them outside. ^ these are some nice light weight sennheisers. This company does some great work. ^ this is the mother of all headphones. The Sennheise Orpheus. Too bad they cost well over 10 grand. ^ Here's the Shure E2 earbuds. Apparently the sound is amazing, and at the price.... it damn well better be! ^ these are the koss plug. They only cost about $20 so I think …

I've been thinking about making this thread for a while and finally decided that tonight was the night. I fucking love reggae. I don't know if it's because I smoke a lot of weed or what, but something about reggae just makes me want to listen to it as much as possible. So if anyone else appreciate jamaicas second greatest export(the first being Red Stripe) or just wants to talk about good reggae bands; here's the palce to do it. So to start things off, here's a list of some reggae I've been listening to lately: -Groundation -John Brown's Body -10 ft. Ganja Plant -Gomba Jahbari -King Tubby -Culture -Third World -Burning Spear -Willie Williams -Junior …

A thread for those 12oz users who appreciate extreme music in it's many forms...since I didn't see a thread for this here in the music forum. I'm a bit curious to see who in this community is actually into music that you don't hear in graff videos or sneaker ads. Will be interesting to see some responses.

Thread idea- songs that have become attached to movie scenes such that hearing the song brings back the scene. Mainly avoiding songs made for the movie. A few that come to mind:

In the last few years I've re-grown increasingly interested in this genre of music. When I was a teenager (early 80s...) I was very much into noise and experimental sounds from projects like NON, Hunting Lodge, and Whitehouse. I was also into Current 93, Nurse with Wound, Death in June, and other Nihilistic folk bands. For me it was the music, not so much the image... and the image is what most folks focused on (Like Goth music, I love it, but I'm not concerned with wanting to look like death or hang out in cemeteries). Projects like NON and Hunting Lodge were definitely uneasy listening, but for some reason I found myself engulfed in the waves of sound. The music became …

Well there are plenty of older Hardcore music threads on 12oz, but I wanted one specifically to bounce band ideas off each other. So without further adeu...here are some bands I've 'discovered': - rememberingnever. (holy shit!) - Set In Silence (more metalish) - moksha (more like a band that would appear on MTV, still good though) - They Came Burning - foreveririse - Reason For Being http://static-void.net/Lib/Media/Photos/5/IO.Spanky.Zack2_B.jpg'> P.S. Anyone who can guess who this is gets Hardcore mix CD and some stickers. (sorry if it loads slow)

I've been meaning to make this thread for some time, seeing as how quite a few fans have come out of the woodwork on 12 oz over the years. I started going to Dead shows with my parents in the early 80s, so from then till 1995 I probably saw them 60-80 times. I'll admit it- I went to the Jerry Garcia memorial in Golden Gate Park and cried after he passed...I haven't bothered to check out any of the post-Jerry projects because it just wouldn't be the same. I'm not going to try to sell anyone on the Dead because you either get it or you don't...there's no middle ground. So this thread is for the fans to talk about experiences at sho…

https://www.rockhall.com Does anyone care about the HOF? Def controversial, but I wonder if some of that is from fans not being as involved in voting. This year's nominees have been announced and voting is open to fans for the next month I believe. Some nominees you may or may not give a shit about: DEVO RATM THE GO-GO'S TINA TURNER FOO FIGHTERS I'm a Howard Stern fan and some of the guys from the show vote for nominees. Howard tears up the HOF any chance he gets and makes some good points. Steve Miller too.

PHASE 2 was apart of the early years of Hip hop in NYC. PHASE has worked on quite a few album covers for many artists from all over the world. He was a man of many talents and will be greatly missed by those whose lives he touched. From albums he did designs for or rapped on here are a few examples. Continue with your own research and you will find many more as these are only a few from my personal collection. Hope you are able to discover much more about the talents and how PHASE 2 changed the world with what he did.

I read an article by Harvard Health that music can heal depression. I quote from health.harvard.edu: "Music therapy can calm anxiety, ease pain, and provide a pleasant diversion during chemotherapy or a hospital stay." "Over all, music therapy decreases pain perception, reduces the amount of pain medication needed, helps relieve depression in pain patients, and gives them a sense of better control over their pain. Improving quality of life for people with dementia." If so, just for chatting sake and taking out the dementia part - indulge me (i'm brokenhearted), what song would be your therapy? Mine would be ---

Or will the mumble rap and trap roll on? will there be another generation of conscious MC who are maybe 13 or 14 now, during all this social unrest, who will find their voice and use it as an MC in another 5 years or less? will the giant social unrest in 2020 be a catalyst for the return of music, and especially hip hop, that is socially conscious and carries a message?
